DP and I like boring seventiesish names! We were talking names yesterday for DC2 (to be born imminently) and have a vague list, but would welcome comments or more suggestions. Please don't be offended by my description of the names if you or your DC have them, I guess I just mean we aren't into very fancy or faddy names. Lists so far..

Euan/Ewan
Sam(uel)
Fred(Erick) - though I don't like Freddy
Ford
Elliot
Keir

Hannah
Helen
Eilidh
Laura
Sam(antha)
Nina
Catherine

Some names we have excluded for various reasons: John, Mark, Andrew, Stephen, Jamie, Ross, Alexander, David, James, Fraser, Paul, Peter, Joseph, Kevin, Jessica, Louise, Kirsty, Susan, Gillian, Zoe, Chloe, Fiona, Olivia, Sophie/a.

I love Caroline, but DP doesn't Confused

Like Sam particularly for a girl but boy's name could grow on me.

I'm afraid Lydia has been destroyed for me, there's no coming back! I'm not sure DP was ever sold on it anyway.

Nice to hear the love for Euan. DP suggested yesterday and I think I like it.

I really like Lydia. If you feel a connection with a name choose it.

One of my friend's told me that the name I'd chosen for a girl was better for a horse. I used it and still love it. Grin

I like Euan. It's a real name but also quite unusual.

I don't see anything wrong with Lydia, it's nice

MrsJoeyMaynard · 21/07/2016 22:50

I'd avoid Fred(erick) if you don't like Freddie. Ford is a bit random, reminds me of The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy.

I love Catherine. We had Katherine on our girls shortlist.

Is Sam a particular favourite? I notice you have it on both the boys and girls lists.

EffieIsATrinket · 21/07/2016 22:49

Caroline is lovely.

Snog · 21/07/2016 22:42

Karen, Lisa, Caroline, Jason, Martyn, Neil all popular in the 70s

GruffaloPants · 21/07/2016 22:18

Thanks both for the encouragement and suggestions. Will put some to DP later (I'm in hospital tonight for monitoring). Agree Ford is random, doubt we would use it, but DP said it as a joke yesterday when we were trying to come up with names for each letter and then we thought... maybe.

Lydia was one of my favourites for DD but friends and family put us off. Learned never to discuss names with people you know.

Elliot and Nina are my favourites from those. Don't use Fred if you don't like Freddie as I think that is inevitable with it being so popular at the moment. I also think Ford is a bit random amongst your other choices.

I'll suggest Ruth, Lewis, Lydia, Faye, Zara, Lois.

Lewis, Louis, Henry, Christopher and Matthew

EffieIsATrinket · 21/07/2016 22:11

Amazing lists! Love all the girls names and most of the boys.

My favourites are Laura, Catherine and Euan.
