Harvey or Tobias?

It would be their choice whether to go by the nickname Toby!

Cheers x

Tobias! The only Tobias I knew was an absolute sweetie! He was such a gentleman! Always makes me smile to hear the name. Plus- Tobes is a nice nickname too.

marmitecrumpets · 05/07/2016 06:22

Tobias

I've taught a few naughty Harveys so that puts me off that name!

septembersunshine · 05/07/2016 06:19

Tobias with Toby for short. I think it has more weight to it as a name. There are more options for him. It also has history.

Harvey - just on a different level for me. It sounds like a really rubbish surname. Or it's a nickname for something. I don't like it.

NotYoda · 04/07/2016 20:24

Blimey, you're easily pleased OP! A few replies (5 out of 6 in favour of Tobias) and it's sorted Grin

LolaStarr · 04/07/2016 19:24

Tobias but I really don't like Toby for some reason Blush

julfin · 04/07/2016 05:16

I much prefer Tobias/Toby. Tobias is sophisticated and interesting. Toby is cool and manly. Harvey (imo) is nowhere near as classy or intelligent-sounding.

Lindt70Percent · 03/07/2016 20:59

Tobias.

I'm not keen on Harvey because I think of it as a surname and I also know 3 dogs called Harvey.

Oysterbabe · 03/07/2016 20:56

Harvey.
Tobias makes me think of the character in arrested development.

akorda · 02/07/2016 22:24

Sorry but neither

Harvey just doesn't sound nice to me and Toby/Tobias has been made very stale for me by the many babies with that name around where I live-South East.

So maybe some alternative suggestions, kind of with the same "Tobias" vibe:

Ferdinand (Ferdy)
Gregory (Gregor)
Lucien
Torin
Malachi (Mal)
Any of these appeal?

Enjoy the journey!

Just5minswithDacre · 02/07/2016 22:12

Oh and 'why'?

Because Tobias was the protagonist of a reading scheme I devoured when I was 5. He was great.

More seriously because Tobias sounds bookish, open and fresh faced to me. Harvey sounds like a thrusting executive.

Just5minswithDacre · 02/07/2016 22:10

Tobias

Mrsw28 · 02/07/2016 22:08

Tobias, it's a good name, manly too, I'm sure you could nickname as something other than Toby too, just T for example.

Harvey is not manly, it reminds me of stuffed toys and an unkind, spoilt child I taught.

ShortcutButtons · 02/07/2016 22:06

Harvey just makes me think of Katie Price/Jordan.

So it's Tobias for me

flutterworc · 02/07/2016 22:02

Tobias. Taught too many naughty Harveys!

SaveSomeSpendSome · 02/07/2016 21:59

Im not keen on either but if i had to choose i would go for Harvey

RiverTam · 02/07/2016 21:57

Tobias, though I really don't like Toby.

clarka · 02/07/2016 21:56

I think Tobias is lovely and Toby is a great nickname. Harvey is nice but not as good imo.

Liz09 · 02/07/2016 21:53

Harvey.

I like Toby, but have never warmed to Tobias for some reason (might be the "bias" sound in it).

fionadal · 02/07/2016 21:50

Toby is actually getting pretty common. Nice name, but don't go for it because it's unusual.
Toby/Tobias together with the other t name Theo may well be racing up the charts soon.

Quercus3 · 02/07/2016 21:04

Harvey

Cammy007 · 02/07/2016 16:24

Thank you everyone for your opinions on the names! I do think Tobias is the one 😃 Toby is a good nickname for a child and teenager but then Tobias as an adult! Thanks everyone!

I also prefer Tobias! It's unusual but lovely and yes I agree with above that it sounds manly. Toby is also lovely.
Harvey is nice too but I think it's more commonly used as a name and I've even known it as a surname.

Cjamm · 02/07/2016 16:09

I prefer Tobias

sonlypuppyfat · 02/07/2016 16:07

Tobias it's proper manly

BoboBunnyH0p · 02/07/2016 16:06

Prefer Tobias, Harvey just reminds me of Harveys furniture land, sorry.
