Would you be put off by these initials?

My husband and I liked Edward and George for our gorgeous son. We decided to call him Edward as were worried about the popularity of George. I then thought that we could give him George as a middle name. However, our name starts with G, so it would make him Edward George G..., with EGG as initials. It made me worried that he could be teased at school, so gave him James as mn just because it sounded nice. I still have an option to change his mn till he is 12 months. Do you think EGG as initials is a valid reason not to choose George? Thanks!

Do you just call him Edward? If you do, personally I wouldn't think it worth the hassle to change it - it just becomes one of those things that you talk about later - "we would have called you x, but didn't because y". People rarely use or refer middle names once they get past babyhood, in my experience - it's something for form filling and very little else.

And I changed my DS's middle name (well, added one!) at the day before his first birthday Op so yes, I would do it if it's the name you really want for him! 9m vs forever, it's a no-brainer IMO.... Grin

My initials are CAMP and no one has ever commented. My OH's are ABH! Only my aunts sometimes refers to him as this. I don't think it really matters and there are worse nick names

I knew a girl whose first name was Charlotte, middle name Olivia. her surname started with W. She was teased mercilessly.

I went to school with someone whose name was Benjamin and we actually called him BJ as a nickname... Everyone knew what it meant, but no one made fun of him for it or anything. So no, I wouldn't say it would be a problem. Smile

Thank you all for opinions. My second question is: is it worth changing Edward James to Edward George when ds is 9 months old?

It's a lovely name I'm biased.

I had the opposite problem at school - my initials were ET and, this being the early 80s, I was teased mercilessly and only ever got called ET, never by my actual name. I started telling everyone that my initials were actually EFT (my mum's proposed solution - I blamed my parents for my most terribly life-ruining initials even though I was named several years before the film came out) and nobody took the blindest bit of notice and carried on calling me ET. EG or EGG is absolutely fine.

He may well get called Egg at school, but really, so the fuck what? It's not a nasty word.

EGG isn't too bad. I work with a girl whose initials are TIT Grin
Me & dp have been together for 14 years but we have never got married because my initials would be something like STD Blush

It makes me think of Egg from This Life. Even if people did know his initials I don't think Egg is a bad nickname.

My ex in laws are SAG and GAG. which suits them quite well

We know an adult with the surname White who is known as Egg... Nicknames are given, not chosen.

Might want to check to see if any potential local schools make the kids wear their initials on their PE kits, our secondaries do and no one wants something silly embroidered across their chest!

What's wrong with having 2 middle names? I do!

There's a good chance he will have EGG as a nickname, but other than that I don't see that it matters that much.

You rarely have to use any middle names you have so I wouldn't let it put me off the names.

DDs are MMR - we've been joking were should nickname her Vax! It's kinda catchy.... Grin

We're not worried tho - OH hasn't even realised and it's His 3yr old!

I'd stick with what you've called him, it's a nice name.

We abandoned our first choice name because the initial would have been XL. What if he was overweight? It could have resulted in much teasing.
