My cousin likes these names for her little girl but wants some opinions before she makes her choice.

Which do you think is nicer?

Prefer Lyra

How about Lara?

scottsporridgeoats · 28/06/2016 19:34

Lyra is a beautiful name!

LadyAntonella · 28/06/2016 18:38

I prefer Luna as I know too many little Lyras already and it's also a lot like Lara or Layla, Lola etc of which there seem to be hundreds! Luna isn't much like anything else which I've heard recently at least. I also love Luna Lovegood from HP! Smile

RainbowJack · 28/06/2016 17:29

Is she a fan of children's fiction?

No.

She just liked the names.

The luna(tic) connection hadn't occurred to any of us.

I think ly(c)ra is a bit tenuous though

Both look and sound pretty but he following springs to mind and puts me off:
Lyra = Lycra
Luna = lunatic

Lydia maybe?? Seems to be having a revival.

user1465823522 · 28/06/2016 09:45

Neither to be honest. Both are kinda tacky.

Mottled · 28/06/2016 09:10

Lyra

julfin · 28/06/2016 07:50

I like both. I think Lyra is prettier though, and I agree Luna has the loony/lunatic problem. I don't think of Lycra at all when I see/hear Lyra!

Twowrongsdontmakearight · 28/06/2016 07:34

Yes Scarlet. My first though was loony Luna too.

ScarletForYa · 27/06/2016 19:35

Lyra.

Luna= loony

MaryMarigold · 27/06/2016 19:33

I would have said Lyra (huge HDM fan), but I know a baby Luna and she's a beautiful bright little thing and suits her name perfectly.

Either or both, basically!

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 27/06/2016 19:29

Lyra. (Probably more because of the HDM link - great choice - but as a name I prefer it too.)

hmmmum · 27/06/2016 19:27

Lyra, I think Luna sounds too much like loon / loony

RattieOfCatan · 27/06/2016 19:26

Fucksake love not live! Stupid autocorrect!

RattieOfCatan · 27/06/2016 19:25

I live both names, if we weren't in live with another name Lyra would be top of our list if we have a girl, and we would use it because of His Dark Materials. Luna is also lovely too though.

Alibobbob · 27/06/2016 19:16

My daughter has a Luna in her class - she gets called tic! Not very nice but there you go.

Love the name Lyra.

Gracey79 · 27/06/2016 19:16

Lyra just reminds me of Lycra too, like Luna what about yuna?

HeartsTrumpDiamonds · 27/06/2016 19:09

Lyra = lycra to me.

TheDropBear · 27/06/2016 19:08

They're both my little ponies, Princess Luna and Lyra Heartstrings.
I agree with the previous poster about Lyra/liar. Luna is prettier, although I guess then you've got loony luna which isn't great.

NewStartNewName · 27/06/2016 19:04

Luna is a bit naff to be honest, and Lyra is going to lead to a whole host of Lycra jokes .........

Smartiepants79 · 27/06/2016 18:56

If I have to pick one I'd go with Lyra. However I would not choose either as both are inextricably linked to well know book characters.

sparechange · 27/06/2016 18:55

I know 2 Lyra's and 2 Luna's
3 are dogs and 1 is a horse

1horatio · 27/06/2016 18:53

I love the name Luna. Lyra is cute, but Luna is just soo lovely!

DramaAlpaca · 27/06/2016 18:42

Lyra

Uptownfuckuup · 27/06/2016 18:41

lyra
