For a boy. What do you think?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
MaudGonneMad · 11/06/2016 14:37

^ Those two words have similar overall sounds, but different syllables/vowel sounds are emphasised.

MaudGonneMad · 11/06/2016 14:36

Irish for song in Ireland is Amhrán; Óran (or Odhran) was a 6th century saint.

RJnomore1 · 11/06/2016 14:35

I know someone with a son called Auryn?

Fridaynamechange · 11/06/2016 14:33

I've never heard of Oran as a boys name. I live in Scotland and it's a girls name here, it's Gaelic for music

MaudGonneMad · 11/06/2016 14:21

It's pronounced Oh-run. Lovely name.

AugustRose · 11/06/2016 14:20

I've never heard it before but I think it's nice.

exWifebeginsat40 · 11/06/2016 14:20

*Ouran, even.

exWifebeginsat40 · 11/06/2016 14:19

there's a VERY odd anime called Oren High School Host Club and it makes me think of that. i know this is niche, however!

what sound is the O with an accent?

LadyAntonella · 11/06/2016 14:16

I like it, but I prefer Oisin! Grin

clogher · 11/06/2016 14:12

Loved it and wanted it for DS but DH and I differed as to how we pronounced it so was ultimately abandoned

IoraRua · 11/06/2016 14:07

Gorgeous name.

ummlilia · 11/06/2016 14:05

Wouldn't work for me because I think right away of the place Oran in Algeria , but otherwise I have never come across it before and am not sure how to pronounce it. is there stress on the O (given the accent on the letter)?

MyNewBearTotoro · 11/06/2016 14:04

I've never heard it before but I really like it.

DontKillMyVibe · 11/06/2016 14:02

.... Torin and Odin were also on the list. Like Oisin too but a friend already has a DS with that name

DontKillMyVibe · 11/06/2016 14:01

I really like it. It was near the top of my list before we found out we are having a girl

Belmo · 11/06/2016 09:54

I think it's lovely!

AuntieStella · 11/06/2016 08:00

I think of Oran 'Juice' Jones (The Rain)

Now, that reference might mean nothing to you, but there is the potential for exactly the same NN if you're in an Anglophone country.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 11/06/2016 07:41

Is it said like ore- ran ? Or oh- ran?
I like the first pronunciation Smile

MumOnACornishFarm · 10/06/2016 22:59

I'm not a fan, it sounds like you're trying a little too hard to be different. Sorry! It's also the name of a really creepy goth character in Parks & Recreation and I am incapable of shaking an association between a name and a person/character that I dislike. Stupid, I know.

BennyTheBall · 10/06/2016 22:30

I know an Oran (and a Toren)

Meh - it's OK.

sonlypuppyfat · 10/06/2016 22:29

I've never seen it before how do you pronounce it
