I'm finding it really hard to choose a name for my little girl. I've always loved the name Emma - my husband likes it too but says its "not very exciting". The trouble is, every time I come up with something "exciting" he vetoes it! What do you guys think of Emma? Any other suggestions we might like? Thanks!

I love it - I have a 20 year old Emma. She is beautiful, clever, independent and feisty if that makes any difference I may be biased

There are quite a few girls named Emily/Emilia/Amelia etc... And Emma isn't exactly unpopular either. But it is a really lovely name :)

I think it's lovely, so what if it's not rare? not all names have to be, you can't beat a classical name.

It's a lovely classic name. A number of heroines in literature called Emma too. I'd say go for it.

Yes it's popular in Germany, the US and France too. I think it's quite popular in Poland as well (only from Google). I think that's a huge bonus - it would travel well.

It's fine but boring. Makes me think of the countless Emma's I went to school with. Useless fact - it's the second most popular girls name in Germany. I reckon there are more baby Emma's around in the UK then people think. I know two who are around 1 year old here.

You cant go wrong with Emma its a lovely name, i have dds with not very exciting names but they never date i heard a baby the other day and she is in her 20s

You could go with Emmeline (which could be classed as a bit more exciting by your oh) and use Emma for a nickname, or Emme/Emmy?

Has your DH been coming up with suggestions of his own? If not, he can stop vetoing yours. You shouldn't have to bend over backwards to find something that meets his lordship's approval. Let him find other ideas if he wants something else.

He will soon come to the correct conclusion that Emma is the best name Wink

Emma is a beautiful name and will sound fresh among all the Ellas, Evies, Sophias etc. Yes, there are lots of our generation with that name,but, as other have said, very few little ones (on a downward trend in the name stats list so it will sound anything but boring in a few years' time!)

A winner on every count IMO!

My ds is 20. Had 7 Emmas in his year of 140. But suddenly it has disappeared as a name so a good time to use it. I think it's lovely and suits all ages

I love Emma! It's DDs name. I think it got more popular in the US due to Friends and Ross and Rachel's Emma, but that was years ago.

I think it's timeless and simple. Suits a LO or an adult

I've always really liked my name. It was pretty popular in my age group (early 90's baby), but not so much now. I've never met a baby or child with my name, ever.

I think it's strong, classic and feminine, and suits all ages and personalities. It's easy to say and spell, and it has some nice nickname options while also being short enough to not need a nickname if you don't want to use one. It's also very international, which is a surprising boon if you're like me and choose to travel and study abroad.

I say go for it!

I am listening to the BBC radio adaptation of Emma on Audible at the moment, so it is fate!

I'm not usually one for 'simple' 'traditional' names but I think Emma is quite lovely. Maybe because I have a pretty and lovely friend (aged 33) called Emma. Friends in the US have a one year old Emma but don't know any others. Reminds me of Ross and Rachel's baby in friends!

It's not very exciting but it's nice, and classic. And no-one will misspell or mispronounce it! I met someone recently with a 2-year-old Emma and was a bit surprised when she told me the name as it's so unusual now!
