Dexter Zachary or Zachary Dexter?

I'm expecting my first baby boy in September and I have already chosen my 2 favorite names. I just can't decide what way round I prefer. I think I'm leaning slightly towards Dexter Zachary. What is everyone's opinion?

Although I prefer Dexter to Zachary. Zachary Dexter flows better than Dexter Zachary.
If I had to swear on oath though I don't think they really go together either way, but that's just my opinion. Not a fact

It is more important that the name most usually used goes well with the surname, because the middle name is almost never said out loud as part of the whole name. Just in court or at your wedding!
I presume your surname is not Exeter, for example?

I'd take the "symmetrical syllable approach", so either 2-3-2 or 3-2-3.
If your surname is Johnson (2 syllables) it would be Dexter Zachary Johnson.
If it's 3 syllables like Iverson it would be Zachary Dexter Iverson.

If your surname's one syllable, do what you like!

Zachary Dexter runs off the tongue easier, less cumbersome to say.

Won't prevent you from using Dexter as his known name though .

Thanks for everyone's comments. Over the past two days I think I have picked my favorite. Dexter, with Zachary as a middle and . I still have a way to go in the pregnancy and it's up to my husband too,( who said that they are his two favorite names too)but Dexter just seems right to me.

Zachary Dexter has a much better rhythm. Much easier to say.

You can use which ever name you like, day to day .

I prefer Dexter - I do know a baby Dexter, who is nicknamed Dex and Dexy which are both lovely. I think it is becoming more popular but so far I have only met one!

I much prefer Dexter. It's cool, strong and not too widely used.

Zachary is ok but I really dislike Zak/Zac as a nickname, it sounds so weak and comical to me.

Don't worry about the middle name, it so rarely gets used. In other words, choose whatever you like, it doesn't have to 'flow'.

I have a Zachary so I say Dexter Zachary (don't want too many Zachs running around )
