Middle name for Rosa?

We're fairly sure we're going with Rosa for a first name when dd2 arrives later in the summer, but a bit stuck for middle names. Suggestions so far are Grace, Cecily and Elise but none of them have bowled me over (dh says no to Persephone, Florence and Harriet but I'd go with any one of them) Any ideas?

Math's suggestion of Nieve is wonderful! It would be such a lovely way of your elder DC being involved and feeling special, to have (in effect) chosen the middle name. I knew a Spanish lady called Nieve years ago and I remember having a conversation about names and thinking how nice Snow/Nieve was as a name in Spanish. (And if you're worried about middle names, I don't think that's really a problem with middle names as they're not used every day.) It would be such a sweet/special story to tell people (much more special than just picking an old family name imo).

(Obviously you'd need to actually like the name Nieve, I realise I've let my own enthusiasm run away with me when it may not be to your taste, ha!)

As I mentioned, both grandmothers actively dislike their names and have told us not to use them. As my mum said "it was bad enough in the 50s, why on earth would you inflict it on a child now?" We don't want to single out another family member. I have my grandmother's name as a middle name but my other grandmother didn't have a grandchild named after her, and it was something the family was never allowed to forget. For me those are enough reasons to avoid using a family name.

I think family names for middle names are awful.

Because 'Rose' and 'May' and 'Grace' are SO much more interesting.

Instead of Snowy, how about the Spanish word Nieve (pr. nee-EH-vay), meaning snow.

I love 'Snowy' Smile. I had some bunnies who all rejoiced in the name when I was very small.

Thanks for all the excellent suggestions - lots on there that we haven't considered yet, now I just need dh to come home so I can start firing them at him.

The two vowels thing worries me a bit too, as does having an 'a' sound at the end of each name, it takes out so many girls names though.

alis I haven't posted on here about a name yet.

We're actively avoiding using a family name for a middle name. Both grandmothers dislike their names, plus we didn't want to offend anyone who we missed out. I did ask dd1 for her suggestions and all I've got so far is Snowy (for our late summer arrival...)

Artandco - depends which language. Valentine can be female too.

Op - I agree with pp that two vowels don't flow so well (although Elise is beautiful).

I think Rosa Celeste or Rosa Claire are lovely suggestions.

I'm not keen on Rosa Elise. Elise is a bit of a filler middle name, and the end vowel in Rosa runs into the E of Elise. For this reason I would not use any middle name starting with a vowel.

Beatrice, Madeleine, Leonora, Delphine, Catherine, Willow, Juliet, Winifred, and Caroline from PPs' suggestions are gorgeous with Rosa.

I only ask because I saw your thread title and immediately thought Elise, before even seeing it was a name you were already considering.

Rosa Elise sounds lovely.

As does Rosa Eloise.

I think family names for middle names are awful. Named after a fusty old relative? or forever feeling like you have to live up to your namesake(s).

I would choose another nice, 'modern' name that the child could use as an alternative if they didn't like their first name
