Op you're not following the rules. The rules are, you propose a name. Everyone else goes urgh yuk, child abuse, bullied, blah blah and you're supposed to go "gosh you're right, ill name my child Sophie instead".

I get you OP Smile it's my fav film too and before my dcs came along I had two cats - Clarence and Alabama. I may well have named my children either one of these names (if I hadn't already used them on the cats dammit)

I value your opinion as much as any other but I feel you're being a little bit hyperbolic.

Even if she hates her name (and my mum gave me a corker) I doubt she'll assume I hate her, all other evidence hopefully pointing to the contrary.

Seriously OP, any of the other names you have suggested are preferable. Alabama is child abuse territory. Sorry.

And it's just plain weird given that your other children have perfectly nice names. This little one will grow up wondering what she did to make you hate her so much.

Now, now people we've had much, much worse names on MN.

I still haven't recovered from the apparently serious thread proposing 'Huckleberry'. Quite a few people liked it too if memory serves.

Ellen if you and your DH love it go for it, you could start a theme if you have any more DC, these are my favourites:

Tennessee

Carolina

Pennsylvania

I'm also considering Lavinia and Magdalene as well as Leonora and Marielle/a

Alabama is currently my favourite though.

Other DC are Eden Sylvie Reuben and Delilah.

Any other suggestions?

Something along those lines.

If you think of George rather than the state when you hear 'Georgia' then fair enough but I don't.

Georgina is the feminine variant of George as far as I have always been aware.

Girls have been named Alabama for over a century and so it is a name in its own right, if less popular (common) than other notable choices.

Your reasoning around Georgia is most illogical. Georgia as a feminine form of George predates the state of Georgia. Ergo it is a "proper" name in its own right.

That's what middle names are for.
