The Carolina's, Virginia (and obv west Virginia), Louisiana, and Maryland are all named for Royals too. Not that anyone asked, but i think it interesting.

It is interesting. New York was also named for a royal: James, Duke of York who became James II and VII.

I grew up in the state of Georgia; it is actually very different from Alabama. We have two Nobel Peace Prize recipients for heavens sake! And yes, it was named for King George II.

It did make me chuckle to see this thread reanimated Grin

Alabama isn't really still in the running although I do still love it and still think if it as no more odd than Georgia (and much prettier sounding)
I may still use it as a second name (probably will now that this thread popped back up. I take it as a sign)

Currently debating Leocadie/Romilly if the baby is a girl.
If a boy will definitely be Raphael William Xavier.

Baby is making his/her appearance via ELCS at some point on 2nd December.
I'll let you all know if Alabama gets a look in!

If you love OP then go for it, why do you care so much what other people think? It's not my taste but then I wouldn't want everyone to call their children only the names I like, that would be ridiculous.

Sorry, I've been to Alabama, (live next door in Texas) and it's one of the poorest states in the USA. Even here, it's a real redneck name and I would imagine her living in a trailer with a guy called Billy Bob. Please don't.

It makes me think of the song or the country music band more than the US state.

Have you ever been to Alabama? Do you have any connection to native Americans? Do you know that most university parties in the US will feature a drink called an "Alabama Slamma"? Alabama is not a very nice place (sorry!) and doesn't have many positive associations so that alone would put me off.
