Unarmed baby boy! Any of these or something else!

We have a still unamed 10 day old! He is brother to Zachary and Olivia. Surname is Mann so lots of names don't work so well with it being so short and no names starting with the letter 'C' please...! :)

Any of these on our shortlist, or something else we've not thought of?

Tobias (Toby)
Theodore (Theo)
Benjamin (Ben)
Osian (Welsh)
Finley (or should it be Finlay?) but shortened to Finn. (Too abrupt with the surname?)
Noah
Joshua (dated?)
Ethan
Isaiah (is there a shortening of this?)
Jake
Alexander (Alex)
Ezra

Also, how close a friend would someone have to be for you to not give your child the same name as theirs?! We're so stuck!

I agree, love Theo but would hesitate using it because of the meaning.... but some people would love the meaning so it just depends!

Sometimes short first names and short surnames can work. Never did Brad Pitt or Jude Law any harm!

We had some of yours on our list too. I love Theo but don't like it's meaning.

Alexander was my favourite but dh didn't want him to be an Alex. I love all the alternative diminutives of it though.

Also liked George and Max buy just knew too many. We wanted something where we didn't know of any others so we went with Gregory for that reason and because it has similar meanings and origin to Alexander.

I have a 10day old baby girl and as we didn't find out what we were having we had a boys list which was similar to yours... So here's ours:
Samuel
Benjamin
Ezra
Isaac

Alexander would have been the middle name.

I like Theodore, Joshua, Osian, Ethan, Isaiah, Jake (if short for Jacob), Alexander and Ezra.

I'd probably take Osian and Ethan off the list so that the first name and surname don't both end in an/ann.

From your list - Alexander, Ezra, Finlay or Joshua.

In my accent Theo Mann sounds a bit too much like "the Omen" Shock Noah Mann a bit like "No, a man".

I like Ethan, but don't think "Ethan Mann" flows.

Love most of your names. Think Alex, Theo and Ethan go well with your surname. Have you thought about Joel, Luke, Jack, Isaac, James, Matthew (embrace the alliteration), Louis, Joseph/Joe, Oliver?

Yes I have love for Joshua and Jacob. But Jake doesn't go very well with your surname - too abrupt imo.

I also really love:
Alexander
Benjamin
Tobias
Finley
But Finn and Ben don't go well with your surname either.

So my vote goes to Joshua, Tobias and Alexander, in that order. All gorgeous.

Fwiw, there are no names on your list that I dislike. You have good taste Grin

My favourite on your list is Osian - LOVE it! However, I don't think it goes well with your surname. Likewise Benjamin (min-man or ben-man), Noah, Ethan, Finn or Jake - too abrupt or sound odd.

My choice would be Theodore.

Laquila yes we love Isaac but seems odd to have a Zachary (Zac) and an Isaac as siblings? Or maybe not?

PinkParsnips I like Toby best, then Theo, then Alex. But I will mull it over. Noah I love but like other posters I agree it doesn't go so well with the surname.

Another possible option is Moses, but again Mo(sea) Mann isn't the best combo. Grrrrr...!!

Noah Mann is too close to no way man for me. I like Alexander, Jake and Ethan.

Noah and Theo are lovely.
I don't think Ben sounds right with your surname.
Personally I don't like Toby, it's nice for a little boy but I know an adult Toby and it doesn't seem a very strong name for a grown man.
Alex is lovely too and goes well with your surname.

Thanks for your replies. Smile. I did spot the typo in the OP but missed the title. Gave me a giggle too...!
So Toby/Tobias, Theo(dore) and Alex are the most popular. We like the first two especially too. No love for Joshua or Jake?
We may well use Osian as a middle name as worry about pronunciation.
If only we were using my surname not DH's we'd have more options.
New addition to our list is Harri (Welsh spelling of Harry). Thoughts?

Toby and Theo top my list. I do not like Finlay - and with your surname he would finish up as Finnmann.

Not Noah or Finn, they don't work with Mann. Where I live (Glasgow) Noah Mann sounds like 'Not a man', which is a bit weird.

Alexander Mann is great though, think that's my favourite.

But I think Tobias and Theodore are both lovely and the two which go best with your surname and other two DC's names.

Agree Finn Mann isn't a good combination. Not keen on Ben Mann either.

I like Toby, Theo and Noah go well with your surname and not too many in class. I only know one of each in a school of 300. Ethan ok too but a few more of those.

Someone we know came to us because my daughter had just been born and her name was the one they had chosen. We told them to go ahead we didn't care. Their baby was born a week later. We didn't see them that often( husband's childhood friend) but funnily enough the girls ended up at the same Brownies and the same gymnastics for a while.

We were last gasp with No. 2,sat in the car park deciding( trying to agree after DH changed his mind about the one we picked) and it was Scotland so only three weeks. Good luck!
