Unarmed baby boy! Any of these or something else!

We have a still unamed 10 day old! He is brother to Zachary and Olivia. Surname is Mann so lots of names don't work so well with it being so short and no names starting with the letter 'C' please...! :)

Any of these on our shortlist, or something else we've not thought of?

Tobias (Toby)
Theodore (Theo)
Benjamin (Ben)
Osian (Welsh)
Finley (or should it be Finlay?) but shortened to Finn. (Too abrupt with the surname?)
Noah
Joshua (dated?)
Ethan
Isaiah (is there a shortening of this?)
Jake
Alexander (Alex)
Ezra

Also, how close a friend would someone have to be for you to not give your child the same name as theirs?! We're so stuck!

Slight change! We're now down to Theo, Osian and Noah (the latter despite previous posters concerns re: if it goes with our surname (Mann). Wonder if we should really not name him Noah, which is our fav of the 3, because it sounds funny with the surname?

Nice feedback for Osian Madrigal and Apple! We're still stuck. I do think Theo or Toby work best with our surname.

I have a little Osian. We live in England and people have picked up the pronunciation easily and I get lots of positive comments about his name.

I would never have guessed at osh-ann for Osian. I'd probably have said it a bit like Odeon but with a Z-sound in the middle, or like Oz-EYE-an.

I think Toby works best, of your final shortlist.

I know an Osian, lovely name.

I also think Ezra Mann is fabulous although it seems you've struck that off your list now.

Toby, Theo, Osian - all good though so no need to panic...although I appreciate it's hard once baby has arrived, it can be a little stressful finding time to finalise the name!

Grin Thanks MrsMushrooms. Osian is pronounced Osh-ann. I can envisage Ocean being another pronouciation attempted by those unfamiliar with it.
I'm not really posh. I know what you mean through about the names.

I would have no idea how to pronounce Osian... I'd guess at 'Hussain' without the H (make of that what you will!!)

Toby and Theo are both nice but a bit too posh for me so I wouldn't know how to pick between them. Theo might just edge it!

We're down to Theo, Toby and Osian.
DH likes Osian best but is pronounability something to really bother about, or would you know how to say it, does it matter?

I like Theo and Ezra. I also think Joshua would work. I wouldn't have anything ending in an 'n', Ben, Fin, Ethan. I think it doesn't flow well with your surname.

I don't know so many Tobys/Theos/Joshuas where we are so it may well be a regional thing.

Apparently the two different Finley/ay spellings are Scottish and Irish?
DH has ruled that name out now, along with Ezra.
I've found loads of threads on here with people disliking Joshua but I still like it and agree, it seems to have peaked so would be less common amongst boys born now.
Josiah is interesting. One to mention to DH. He's favouring Osian or Toby now though. I think we've both dropped Theo. Getting there?

If you like Joshua and Isaiah, what about Josiah? Shorten to Joe/Joss/Josh/Jed etc.

It'll be a long time before there are more Tobys and Theos around than Joshuas, surely?! Maybe it's regional - I'd estimate there are 4 or 5 of the former in my town and around 50 of the latter!

Please don't go for Toby or Theo! They are perfectly nice names BUT there are so many around at the moment among under 3s. At toddler group last week, there were 5 Tobys-no exaggeration! Think they are the next "Oscar" i.e. shooting up the charts.

I love Ezra Mann. Very cool name.
Joshua Mann is also great and I think Joshua is declining in popularity at the moment, so there won't be loads in the future.
Osian is also fab!

I love Osian!!
Harry/ Harri is too common (although a fab name) and if you spell it Harri, he'll forever be 'Harri with an i'.

You could use Theodore nn Teddy rather than Theo.

We shorten our other kids to Livvy and Zack and I think they work ok? But Finn Mann and Theo Mann (the Omen!!) maybe less so.

I know what some are saying about Theo too. Would feel strange calling our baby 'God'!

I think we're down to Toby, Theo, Harri and Osian. Worried about Osian's pronounability though. On meanings, Osian means 'little deer' (odd?) and Harri is the same as Harry (ruler), again, not my ideal!
