I know two little girls called Eden, both of white British middle class stock. It's their name and it suits them. If the OP wants to name her child Heavenly Joy, I see nothing wrong with it. To my ear, it sounds no more twee than Eden

I'm saddened (but not shocked or surprised) by the casual racism on this thread.

Utterly ridiculous. Can you imagine saying "Heavenly Joy, we don't bite / get up off the floor / come here now / put that down"? Or introducing herself at school and at any job? You might as well call her "Utterly Amazing" or "The Best". Separately, the names are quite sweet, Joy is lovely, but together it's just way too much.

Doesn't pass the translate to an adult test for me.

I like non top 10 names all for avoiding the curse of Eve/Lily etc etc but this is taking things too far. Poor kid. Just no.

I think it's a lovely name OP. If I met a toddler called Heavenly Joy I'd think she was adorable. If you really love it then ignore what anyone on the internet thinks! Also being in London does make a difference, there's a much wider range of names and nobody bats an eyelid.

Only thing I would say is I think she might shorten Heavenly when she gets older just because it's three syllables, and I'm not sure what you could shorten it to.

Which can be summarised as you shouldn't use it as it sounds Afro Caribbean/Nigerian. Hmm There are many reasons for not liking a name but that is not a legitimate one.

There's also the worry that she might grow up to be a bit of a, well, twat, and people will be forever mumbling "no you're not" after she introduces herself.

I don't know if people are being racist but I think this thread shows how very homogenous and, dare I say, provincial, most places in Beitain are that this name gets quite this much invective.

Poo I'm not sure the the majority of people on the thread are racist. In general in baby names threads posters raise eyebrows at very unusual names which are strongly associated with a particular culture being used by someone with no association with that culture.

Previous examples I can think of included very unusual Irish, French and Scandinavian names. They are understandable if you are from that culture but tend to raise questions otherwise.

I have a friend with an unusual Spanish name. Her family have no association with Spain - it's a lovely name and suits her but she's been explaining it all her life.

I just want to add: it depends on what you like! We may end up calling our child cedric, which most people here don't seem to like either...
But it's your child. If the parents like such an unusual name it's also very possible that the name will suit your daughter very well. I personally think heavenly joy is more of a middle name combination. But maybe I'm just too boring to appreciate it.

Heavenly is a fine name. It is easy to say, spell and isn't overused. Finding, very sorry to hear about your loss!

OP, you seem to love the name and find it pretty. I say, go ahead and use it.

Heavenly is a lovely name. I work with people called Comfort and Happy - also lovely names.

I have taught quite a few girls named Heavenly in East London-all have been Afro-Caribbean. It was quite a pretty name and suited them all.

It's not one I'd choose though.
