final top 5 - opinions?

DS2 due on 3 weeks. I think I may have my final 5 names. DH is doing is independently and then we will compare and hopefully decide! So here goes (in no particular order)

Thomas
Henry
Daniel
Edward
David

Thoughts or alternatives most welcome!

All lovely names.

I clicked on the thread in trepidation expecting another lot of try-too-hard names like Peregrine, Lancelot, Florian or Lysander.

A memorable surname does make a plain first name prudent.

Edward is on the up, so your son would be more likely to be known as Edward S-B than David S-B. I don't know if that's a consideration, and of course there's no guarantee either way. Looking at the ONS charts would give you an idea but you've no true picture of what's happening in your catchment.

My eldest is called Adam - there were three Adams in our bay on the postnatal ward, the other baby being a girl ... but I'm not sure we've met another since. Just how things go!

Grin Literally laughed out loud about Thomas the Tank Engine! Only really a problem if you have five DSs and call them that I suppose. Surname is a mouthful to be honest which doesn't help!

They're all grand, OP, and there genuinely isn't a pin to choose between them, because they're all stolid, safe classics. Your son will definitely never stand out among his peers because of his name, which is presumably why you've chosen them. Unless his peer group all turn out to be called Ace, Ptolemy, and River. Or unless you're choosing a safe classic first name because your surname is Sidebottom-bboggs. Grin

Thomas - wet, really don't liek this name
Henry - Okay
Daniel - overused for the past 30 years
Edward - classic, quite like this
David - boring

They're all fine (I allowed myself a little :) as, taken together, they do read rather like a Thomas the Tank Engine cast list - but all fine names) but my vote goes to David - underused these days, as a pp said, but a lovely, simple classic name.

All lovely names. You really can't go wrong with any of them from your list.

I'd probably vote for David, simply because it's probably the least popular these days, closely followed by Daniel.

I think they're all solid names, that will all be shortened in school & the rugby pitch by his peers, as he gets older. David for the full name, Ed for best when shortened.

David, as PP says, good strong name and there are very few younger Davids around at the moment. ( and nothing to do with the fact I so fancied one when I was about sixteen, and still have a soft spot for the name all these years later)

I find them all a little dull and overused. If I had to choose one it would be David, which isn't that widely used today and yet is a strong classic name. So my vote goes to David.

all very run of the mill/play it safe/ heard for 30 years everywhere names. Not exciting/individual at all but nice enough.
