Has anyone used this name? Do people have trouble pronouncing it?

What would it get shortened to in theory?

I know an Aurelia (pronounced or- rell- ee-ah) she has a sibling called Aurora,

I'm afraid I don't like either

iisme · 03/05/2016 18:04

Interesting. I've never heard the Claire-uh or Es-may pronunciations - sounds a bit weird!

LadyAntonella · 02/05/2016 13:23

I know an adult Clara (Claire-a) actually. I prefer the Clah-ra pronunciation myself.

afrikat · 02/05/2016 13:11

Thanks all. The more I think about it the more I love it ❤

Yes,

Clar-ah/Claire-ah
Esmay/Esmee

Though I've never heard the "Claire-ah" pronunciation used where I live so it is perhaps a regional thing.

CatInTheVat · 02/05/2016 07:35

I love it. Might pinch it for my list as I am looking for a four sylabble name.

LadyAntonella · 02/05/2016 07:33

FV I would think Clara could be:

Clah-ra
Claire-a

FV45 · 02/05/2016 07:30

I mean Es-mee

FV45 · 02/05/2016 07:30

Es-me
Es-may

iisme · 02/05/2016 07:00

Or for Esme?

FV45 · 02/05/2016 06:13

alis what is the either/or for Clara?

bradybratpack · 02/05/2016 06:11

Beautiful name! None of the potential pronunciations are off putting and the nickname options are nice.

smalllondon · 29/04/2016 13:53

My friends sister is called Aurelia - all the siblings are named after Shakespearian names which I think is quite nice. No one seems to mispronounce or shorthorn it that I've ever seen or she's ever mentioned.

GoldPlatedBacon · 28/04/2016 11:01

Most beautiful name ever. I couldn't use it though, I'm still sad about it. The one I know shortens it to Relly though - yuk!

I pronounce as Or-Ray-Lia

PamDooveOrangeJoof · 28/04/2016 06:49

Love it. Would pronounce owrailia like Love Actually

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 28/04/2016 06:47

It had a very unpleasant temperament Pot. Kicky and Bitey and generally sour.

PotOfYoghurt · 28/04/2016 06:26

Rabbit what was wrong with the horse?

CruCru · 27/04/2016 23:03

I love this name.

Gummibaer · 27/04/2016 21:55

I love Aurelia and would pronounce it Or-ree-lia.

ThatsNotMyRabbit · 27/04/2016 21:54

Beautiful name but the only one I've known was an absolutely vile horse so couldn't use it because of that.

SatrialesPorkStore · 27/04/2016 21:49

My favourite girls name, but I'm not allowed it Angry

ABitAsleep · 26/04/2016 10:12

Reminds me of Love Actually! :)

I pronounce it Oh-rell-ee-ah (I'm from the midlands)

Would shorten it to the Rell-ee-ah (So Relia)

julfin · 25/04/2016 23:04

A good strong Roman name. There are several possible pronunciations which are equally valid and correct. Choose which one you like best, and just tell people that's how it's pronounced. Options:
Ow-RAY-lia
Ow-REE-lia
Or-RAY-lia
Or-REE-lia

The short form will depend largely on which pronunciation you go for (eg Ree, Raylie). Lia is lovely but not a natural shortening because the emphasis in Aurelia is on the second syllable, not on the Lia bit.

Personally my preference is Ow-RAY-lia, nn Raylie.

mnpeasantry · 25/04/2016 22:23

One of my favourite names. Know one. She gets it pronounced or-rel-lia. Don't know if that is absolutely correct or not

Mouthfulofquiz · 25/04/2016 20:23

Shortening it to Rey like Star Wars is so cute!
