so....i posted a few days ago about two names we are considering, I'm due in 5 weeks we don't know what were having, we are all sorted for a girls name however, were totally stumped with boy names.

id like to know your thoughts on the ones we like
here are a few we like:

Tristan - my mum doesn't like :( so feel like I shouldn't have it.

Quinn - people on mumsnet said it sounds like quim?

Theodore - a bit too popular now? also a bit of a mouthful

Theon - husband and I like but people have said its a character from game of thrones.

if I like these names, can anybody suggest other's I may like??

Oops, just saw you already decided against Theon.
Tristan is also really nice. I'm sure you're mum will end up loving the name. Simply because it's the name of her grandchild...

1horatio · 21/04/2016 09:19

After watching Game of Thrones I dislike the name Theon very much.

Naming one's child is obviously incredibly personal, and between you and your partner. But please read this article before giving your child this name: gameofthrones.wikia.com/wiki/Theon_Greyjoy

I agree with somebody that said Theoden might be a nice alternative, I personally really like it.

What about:
Terrence
Trevor
Titus
Tiberius
Travis
Ulric?
Or just Theo?

Thank you for all your help ladies!!!

I love theon but having looked into GOT, I think I will leave it lol

I really feel like I'm missing out on some great action not ever having watched Game of Thrones! Sounds action packed.

That aside I would wait till you have the baby and pick between Theodore (Theo is a cool nickname) or Tristian - both great names :)

Cocoabutton · 18/04/2016 20:38

Theodore is my favourite. I love the nn Ted or TeddySmile

crazygirluk · 18/04/2016 15:29

I love Quinn. If I have another boy it would definitely be on the shortlist.

DerelictMyBalls · 18/04/2016 09:15

From your list, I prefer Tristan.

Never mind what your mum says - she will get used to it.

BobberClobber · 17/04/2016 22:31

Yes, indeed Narp - MN is very useful for that! Grin

What I ment was, post some ideas, get differing opinions, listen to what you want to hear, dismiss what you will, then make your final choice privately. I always feel so sorry for the people who post their final choice which is then torn to shreds. The OP seems quite bothered about what other people think about her name choices, so I thought the advice of not telling anyone her final choice might be useful. I know a lot of people dislike my DS's name. I wouldn't have wanted to hear that before he was born. Now he is here, RL people hide their feelings quite well, which I appreciate! Grin

Narp · 17/04/2016 06:18

Bobber

The point of posting on MN is to get the opinions others will have but not voice to your face - otherwise why bother asking?

AlmaMartyr · 16/04/2016 22:30

I like Tristan, Quinn and Theodore. Theon is a nice name but please don't do it. The GoT association is pretty grim.

Tristan's my favourite actually :)

Voteforpedr0 · 16/04/2016 22:27

Love Tristan don't like the other names

Serenity05 · 16/04/2016 22:25

I have a five month old Tristan and my MIL just decided today that she likes the name - she didn't before (although had the grace not to say anything) but she now associates it with her grandson who she loves, so she loves his name. If you want Tristan, go for it. Your mum will learn to live with it.

Theodore is a great name as well and has great potential nicknames. Theon is cool but the associations with Theon from Game of Thrones make it a huge no. And personally I think of Quinn as a girl's name (entirely influenced by the characters from Daria and Glee!).

Gummibaers · 16/04/2016 22:07

I like Quinn and Theodore. Tristan sounds too sad (triste = sad in French).

How about Quentin or Reuben?

Flumplet · 16/04/2016 21:43

My Theodore goes by Theo to most, but he's Teds or Teddy to me.

Flumplet · 16/04/2016 21:41

You could go with Theon, nn Reek... Has a nice ring to it.

Nowt wrong with Theodore - I have one of those and he's the only one in his class.

AKissACuddleAndACheekyFinger · 16/04/2016 21:37

I have a nephew called Tristan and he is a delight, very cool name! Please not Quinn, it does sound like Quim.

pictish · 16/04/2016 21:23

Also in the books, Theon spends a long time known only as Reek. He is written as Reek.

Theon is a lovely name really, but you just can't.

NameChange30 · 16/04/2016 21:08

What RiverTam said!

BlueChampagne · 16/04/2016 20:53

Theoden would be better than Theon. As well as Tolkein's use in LotR, it's simply Old English for Lord.

It may be a bit late, but keep serious name discussions strictly betwee you and OH.

RiverTam · 16/04/2016 20:26

Yes, but Theon was a hideous shit to begin with and has now had his dick cut off by the psychotic Ramsay, so why the hell you'd want your child to be associated either of those I can't think. Cersei? Another charmer.

BobberClobber · 16/04/2016 20:18

I think you are putting too much thought into other people's opinions. My advice is to choose a name you love and don't tell anyone until baby is here. Don't ever tell your name choice on MN. In RL no one will insult your choice to your face once baby is here.

FWIW I love GoT and I also think the name Theon is fab. Other names have been made up by authors and people used them for their children and they lost the associations of their initial characters. I would love to see lots of the GoT names in common usage... Ramsay, Sansa, Cersei...

NadiaWadia · 16/04/2016 20:08

How about Leo or Leon? Similar sound, but no GoT associations.

NadiaWadia · 16/04/2016 20:06

Why not just Theo if you find Theodore a bit of a mouthful? Theo is nice.

But NOT FGS Theon! Actually I'm a bit puzzled about how you know this name if you don't watch/read Game of Thrones. (As I thought it was a new name invented by the author, along with many others in the books, Sansa, etc.).

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 16/04/2016 20:01

Tristan is a great name IMO.

RiverTam · 16/04/2016 20:00

Bloody hell, you can't go for Theon! Heavens above, do some research Grin!

Theodore is the only one I like from your list.
