Do you always like your firstborn's name more?

I put less effort in which is a bit shameful I suppose, just tired with a toddler and hadn't had a nice long maternity leave to spend dreaming about it.

Oh I know a set of brothers who are Paddy and Fran. Really lovely, handsome and polite young men. (They're 18&16)

No l love dd2 name. Loved it straight away whereas dd1 grew on me (and l named her )

I think Fran for a boy is fab.

I prefer my second born's name. I like my first's name too but it took quite a long time to get used to it.

Back to the question...I prefer ds2's name to ds1. It was my favourite when pg 1st time but DH wasn't keen. He relented for baby 2.

I prefer dd2s full name we gave dd1 3 names who the hell does that poor girl will need to say 3 names if she gets married her report cards couldnt fit them on etc dd2s names are simple

I imagine it depends on what gender you have first and whether you have to agree or compromise with your partner on a name. My firstborn was a boy and as we couldn't agree on our choice, I found boys names so much harder than girls. I love his name now but took a long time to get used to it for some reason - maybe because its more of a man's name than a baby boy's! When my DD came along it was really easy as I'd chosen her name years ago

I prefer DS2s name as well.

I love DS1s name but when pregnant with #2 I watched a show with an actor who had the same name and it was like a lightbulb going off.
It became my absolute favorite boys name and I was so glad I was able to use it.
I still love it now, both boys have surnames for first names but DS2s is a lesser heard one.

No as we have one of each! However, I think things change - or at least they did for us - what would have been DC1's name had she been a boy didn't make it onto the short list for DC2 who turned out to be a boy. If DC2 had been a girl, our favourite name was one DH had refused to consider for DD.

I have a few names I adore all the same. I don't think I'll like DC2's name less

Funnily enough I haven't come across any names that I love as much as DS2s - if I had a 3rd boy I really love the name Vaughn.

Girls are impossible though, I really struggled with names when pregnant so pretty glad I had boys as I fell in love with their names and stuck with them!

I have a big age gap between my DS1 and DD, and my little DS2 (11 years).
I like my elder children's names and think they suit them - but they wouldn't necessarily be my taste now. DS1 ' s name is boring (as in a "safe bet" name) and there are LOADS of them !

They very soon become the personality that is your dc, so of course you love it (and them) as much. Mind, I never had a name for dc1 that I'd "always known I would use for my child" type scenario - we just decided o a name for each of them whilst I was pregnant.

No! I only decide on a name if it's absolutely perfect! I was unsure how to top my 2nd dd's name Eve but then fell in love with Violet

My mum picked a really horrible dated 70s name for my sibling and a nice timeless classic for me.

I think she did it the right way round and my sibling was the trial run for her to get it right next time.

I prefer my third child's name out of all four of them. My elder two were with an ex partner and he was a fussy bastard and we couldn't agree on any names so I compromised on both Ds and dd1's names. We split up (nothing to do with name choosing ) I met Dh and we had dd2 and I got to use my two favourite girl's names (Megan Lucy) as Dh loved them too. We then struggled to find a name we loved as much as dd2's for dd3 and decided on a lovely name but I do still prefer dd2's name.

I do like Ds' and dd1's name and I can't imagine them as anything else now but they would have different ones if I could have chosen them myself with no input from my ex.

No, I love all three of my sons' names equally. They are quite different, but perfect for them.

DS1 was going to have a certain name for a middle name, but we loved it so much we saved it in case we had DS2 - which thankfully we did as we got to use it.

I love both of my children's names but I have one of each, I do think if 2nd had been another DD we would have struggled to find something we both loved, as we gave dd1 both of our favourite names (Imogen Evangeline). For DS his middle name is the one we shortlisted if DD had been a boy, it wasn't chosen as his first name even though we both love it because we couldn't agree on a nn.

I know a couple of people who were disappointed when they realised that their DC1s name was actually really fashionable and not that unusual. When it came to DC2 they had a better grasp of what children were called these days. This is only if being unusual is important, mind you.

I think it seems harder the second time because by then your DC1 has grown into their name and it feels like the new name doesn't fit the new child so well, but they do grow into it.
