Welsh Girls Name Needed.

I'm in need of a name for DD2 due in July and me and DH can't seem to agree on any so far. I thought I'd seen them all but there might be something I'm missing.

It needs to be Welsh, not to difficult to pronounce, I can't roll my R's and sometimes struggle with the dd (th) sound, not always though. DH is the Welsh one, not me.

DD1 is Celyn but I don't want a rhymey name for DD2 so that makes it even more difficult. Our surname is H, so I don't really want a H name either.

I love Erin but it's too close to Celyn. I like Ffion, Nia and Gwen but DH seems to like the more 'out there' names. I can't even remember how to pronounce his current favourite, it was a bit like Gwyneth, but more of a mouth full.

We both like Meri, but wondering if there is something else.

My head is puddled. Please help :)

Llinos. My dd has this as her middle name. She has a short first name and it goes beautifully.

That is similar to how I would pronounce Alys too pickle and I'm welsh.

PickleBot · 02/04/2016 19:52

Interesting about Alys being pronounced as Alice; my gran was Cornish and an Alys but pronounced A-liss.

Cari is a name used, derived from love.

It means 'to love' and is a lovely and gentle name.

Cari Haf.

Gorgeous!

notagiraffe · 01/04/2016 18:56

Seren is one of the most beautiful names I've ever heard, and it's Welsh, I think.

babymakesfive · 01/04/2016 18:55

I love Seren

hollyisalovelyname · 01/04/2016 15:08

Eleri ( first choice)
Carys
or
Seren
would be my choices.
Seren sounds like serene, a lovely calm, gentle image.

Stiddleficks · 01/04/2016 10:12

Rhian is the best Welsh name cos it's mine Grin

WellErrr · 01/04/2016 10:08

Agree Aiwo. Like calling a child Darling or Sweetheart.

Good name for a child's pony but not much else....!

Aiwo · 01/04/2016 10:03

Cariad as a name would be strange.
Especially if you live in Wales/ interact with Welsh people a lot.

I bought milk the other day and the lady called me Cariad.
It's a term of effection

I'm not sure I can think of other names that haven't been suggested without using LL or DD

LostInTheColonies · 01/04/2016 07:53

The only one I know is spelled 'Lleucu'... Lovely name, but not easy to pronounce for the non-Welsh!!

OP, I would second something like Sian or Sioned... Lovely names, easy to pronounce once you know how.

I live in very Welsh Wales, and know lots of all of the names above! But there are also 'Welshified' names such as Beca and Cari being used locally, which haven't been mentioned yet... Thought I would give you those options to consider too!

Polyannatunnel · 01/04/2016 06:14

Lleuci.
