What do you do when your partner's favourite name is Jayden...?

I'm not knocking the name Jayden, I actually don't hate it. However, the name gets too much grief, so I'd never want to use it!

DH is insisting; in all fairness, I named DS1 (DH picked the middle name) - we said we would do it the other way around, this time Sad I wish I hadn't!

Jayden and DS1's name, just does not go. I wouldn't want to use Jayden anyway. Also, as I'm picking the middle, he'd be Jayden Oliver... Honestly, I could cope with Oliver Jayden (even though it's not what I'd like) but DH is saying it isn't fair! Blush help!!!

Back to name Jayden.

I think I dislike it because it makes me think of Jayden Smith. And I haven't ever liked any of his films.

clam · 27/03/2016 13:46

You did the deal with him, so you really do have to stick with it.

No, you really don't.

Surely choosing the name means that the two of you agree a short-list of names you BOTH like, and one of you gets the casting vote; last time it was you, this time it's him. Take Jayden OFF the list if you don't want teachers judging you for ever more. Wink

Lottie2611 · 27/03/2016 13:46

Moopy. The kids name is usually Jayden. Or lily Mae.....

ACandidBlueandWhiteRoom · 27/03/2016 13:46

ThroughThickandThin I have PMd you! Grin

IsmellSwell · 27/03/2016 13:46

You seem a bit over-invested in others opinions on a TV show.

I don't like that type of program and the characters it attracts..
I think it says more about you than me.

I just couldn't have a son called Jayden; I'm sorry, so I sympathise OP.

VoldysGoneMouldy · 27/03/2016 13:44

Don't go with a name you don't like. You make have had this 'deal' but if you were working on it being a different name, that you didn't hugely like but had adjusted to, and if last time he actually liked the name you have chosen, then things aren't going to work.

It's a name you're going to be using for the next 60+ years, you need to like it. Tell him you need to work together to find names that you like.

Lottie2611 · 27/03/2016 13:44

Jayden conjures up a bad image. If you don't want to use it, don't. There are millions of names you can agree on

moopymoodle · 27/03/2016 13:43

Ismell. Tbh most people on Jeremy Kyle have normal names, like Rebecca or Sarah. I agree most people on Jeremy Kyle are offensive, I'm sure you would fit in perfectly with the traits you are displaying here. Grin

IsmellSwell · 27/03/2016 13:41

I'm also rather offended by the Jeremy Kyle comment. Very judgemental and uncalled for. If you knew myself or my family you would take that back.

Have you been on the show?
What was it like? Genuinely interested.

DrAmandaBentley · 27/03/2016 13:41

There are silly people out there who will judge no matter what you call your child. Myself and my children all have very white 'middle class' names, yet we are pretty far from being middle class and none of us are white. I was always teased for having an old lady's name, but it is very popular here on MN Grin

There are all kinds of names out there these days, as long as it's nothing ridiculous like Pilot Inspektor, then go with whatever you and your OH like.

UnderTheGreenwoodTree · 27/03/2016 13:39

DH and I each had the power of veto over all our DC's names. It's just not fair that a child is called a name that one parent hates.

You need to introduce this rule right now! Good luck Wink

moopymoodle · 27/03/2016 13:39

Jojo if you genuinely dislike the name don't call your son it. I called my son it as I loved it, I was a bit miffed that it became so popular but that does happen with most great names.

Trends are annoying tbh, I've never followed them and I wouldn't let others influence my taste. Find a name you love, forget what other people think or say. Just try not to call your child something weird, my parents did that to me and I've never met anybody else with my name and I doubt I ever will!!

IsmellSwell · 27/03/2016 13:39

My apologies.

I'm sure lots of lovely people go on Jeremy Kyle Smile
I haven't seen any, but what do I know.

defineme · 27/03/2016 13:38

My dd's name is fine, but 11 years later i still regret the compromise. ..i adore her brothers' names and wish I adored hers.

MissusWrex · 27/03/2016 13:34

You shouldn't feel forced to name your child something you don't like (even if it is your dh's turn!)

I used to love Jayden as a name. Until the sudden surge where I live of every other child being called Jayden/Kaiden/Shaydon/Brayden etc.

And we are definitely on the Jeremy Kyle side of the tracks Grin

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 13:34

Maybe Jayden isn't too bad... He can be Jay. I'll have an El & Jay - that is okay, maybe I could live with it. I think Jayden Oliver is quite nice, but just not for my child, but it'll probably grow on me.

I'm also rather offended by the Jeremy Kyle comment. Very judgemental and uncalled for. If you knew myself or my family you would take that back. We are far from riff raff, we work hard and our children are well educated, good mannered and lovely. Get a grip!!

ClashCityRocker · 27/03/2016 13:30

Oh yeah, if mumsnet was really life we would be overrun with Ptolemys and Euphemias.

Mind you, Ptolemy does have a ring to it...

ClashCityRocker · 27/03/2016 13:27

I knew one couple who used all their favourite names on pets before conceiving their first..

the name Jayden isn't a problem - the fact that you're unhappy about the name is.

moopymoodle · 27/03/2016 13:24

I have a son called Jayden and I have never, ever in real life encountered any dislike to it. The fact of the matter is whatever you name your child, eventually somebody will have something to say.

When I picked my son's name it was very rare and unique. Just like many names that later become popular and the in thing people suddenly dislike them. If you genuinely dislike a name, that's fine you call your child a name you love. But please don't let the Mumsnet clicks and opinions suddenly become some sort of gospel truth. Christ, according to previous threads on here wicker hearts mean your a swinger and wallpaper is a no no. Follow your heart, not the crowd.

Wait4nothing · 27/03/2016 13:23

I think either parent should be able to veto a name they don't like. He should have the chance at choosing the first name though.

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 13:22

I did say to him "what about Kai? I thought you loved that" - I was willing to go for Kai Oliver (despite it doesn't go with DS1's name) his reply was that he had a new favourite! Sad

OP posts:
IsmellSwell · 27/03/2016 13:20

Don't go for Jayden.
It sounds like the type of name that people who go on Jeremy Vile would use.

For that snobby reason. Do not use it.
