What do you do when your partner's favourite name is Jayden...?

I'm not knocking the name Jayden, I actually don't hate it. However, the name gets too much grief, so I'd never want to use it!

DH is insisting; in all fairness, I named DS1 (DH picked the middle name) - we said we would do it the other way around, this time Sad I wish I hadn't!

Jayden and DS1's name, just does not go. I wouldn't want to use Jayden anyway. Also, as I'm picking the middle, he'd be Jayden Oliver... Honestly, I could cope with Oliver Jayden (even though it's not what I'd like) but DH is saying it isn't fair! Blush help!!!

Clam do you know what racism is?

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 16:22

Right, he is happy with Aidan (yaaay!) but if we go with a J middle name, so he can call him AJ (not so yay!) oh well, I think that's a pretty done deal? Yeah?

Don't do it. You know in your heart it's wrong. Jayden/Kayden/Baden. Just say no.

clam · 27/03/2016 16:15

Vixxface, if I recall correctly, you made a racist comment aimed at white middle-class women on this site.

PennyHasNoSurname · 27/03/2016 16:15

I would say to dh "I would never force you to use a name you actively disliked. I dislike Jayden and so I will not ever agree to it being a first name. You had your chance to veto Elliott and you didnt. You need to go back to the drawing board"

People I know who have dses named Kai/Jayden/Kaden type names also have siblings called Ross (which I love!), Owen and Joseph.

Xmasbaby11 · 27/03/2016 16:11

Don't agree to a name you don't like. You must find one you agree on. There will be one.

Chinesealan · 27/03/2016 16:09

A Jayden in DD's private prep. They're everywhere.
Each to their own but I couldn't imagine what it would be like to live with a partner who thinks it's a nice name.
Those sorts of names beginning with J generally belong to better behaved children than those beginning with K in my experience e.g. Kane, Kade, Kaden. The J has a gentler sound.

MyBreadIsEggy · 27/03/2016 15:56

I would stick to your guns on this one Op. If you really hate it, then it cannot be your son's name. It's not fair. As you said, your DH liked your choice for your elder son,so you weren't in this pickle last time!
When naming my DD, I tried to imagine a name that wouldn't be ridiculous when she's a pensioner....IMO, a 70 year old man introducing himself as "Jayden insert surname" would fall into that category. But again that's purely because those names, and similar ones have those horrible "chav" ties because of stupid shows like Jeremy Kyle unfortunately - and even then, only because Jayden/Kayden/Brayden, have been over used in recent years!

Vixxfacee · 27/03/2016 15:51

Yes I do!

What I was basically saying that the demographic of mumsnet likes certain names.

Jayden is a name that started in the black community and trickled down.

Hence why certain names get stick on this website.

clam · 27/03/2016 15:50

Vixxfacee, do you really have to ask?

clam · 27/03/2016 15:49

My point was that private schools don't always mean posh. If there was a Jayden at a private school, it might just mean that his parents happened to have had money, which is a different thing (hence my Katie Price reference).

Vixxfacee · 27/03/2016 15:49

Why was my comment deleted?

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 15:33

My DS goes to a private school, there hasn't been a Jayden, but there hasn't been many names!

OP posts:
JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 15:32

I don't think they were implying it's 'posh', but that different backgrounds use the name

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/03/2016 15:30

Yes I have to say my dses have been to 3 prep schools between them. No Jayden's in sight.

clam · 27/03/2016 15:25

The inference that being at a prep school means it's a posh name. Katie Price's kids go to private school, fgs.

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 15:22

Why's that funny? Confused

OP posts:
clam · 27/03/2016 15:17

FWIW there are at least two boys named Jayden at DS's private prep school.

Grin This made me laugh out loud.

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 15:13

I love Aidan, I'll discuss with him later

OP posts:
ThroughThickAndThin01 · 27/03/2016 15:13

On a positive note if he sticks to it and your don't want a divorce, Jay really isn't too bad. Any name beginning with a J can get this.

I know a Jay (jeremy) and a Jay (Justin).

JoJoS123 · 27/03/2016 15:11

That's not the only reason, I clearly said Kai gets the same stick

OP posts:
amibeston123 · 27/03/2016 15:10

Its your baby and you shouldn't listen to or care about anybody else's opinion! X

BombadierFritz · 27/03/2016 15:09

No, i mean both kai and jayden are names that are sometimes looked down on for the same reasons. So if thats your main problem with jayden, its not really worth fighting over it, as the same people who would judge jayden would equally judge kai.

AmysTiara · 27/03/2016 15:02

How about Aidan? Pretty similar but nicer. I couldn't call my kid Jaiden but it might have a lot to do with OW having a Jaiden tbh Grin
