I really love this name for dc4 but I know through searching previous threads on here its very disliked... 🤔

Still the case?

I can't see how it's 'uglier' than Aurora or something like that..

I think it's a great name, and the Albertine rose is beautiful.

What Sabine said. Not granny chic at all, quite the opposite. Think of it as Pauline in the UK. Albertine would be bridge friends at the retirement home with Yvette, Georgette and Denise. Basically "boy name + feminine ending" French names very often have that outdated/redneck feel to them. (Not being mean, mine is one of these!)

Not a fan. It is one of the masculine/feminine names that still sounds very masculine IMHO.

I actually think it is really pretty although I imagine it would be hard to live with considering all the negative responses it is getting. It is very likely to be shortened so I would suggest choosing and occasionally using a prefered shortened version early on so people are more likely to use that rather than one you like less.

I'm familiar with the name Augustine for a boy, so at first glance, I assumed this was a male European variant of Albert. I seem to be in the minority, though. Still, Albertina?

Other than that, I think it's fine. If you absolutely love it, then its great, perfect even. I don't see any reason for ridicule. It's not grim (I agree, Maud is my definition of grim), it's just not popular, but we can't all be called Olivia or Ava or Grace.

You said you love the 'bert' sound and its connotations. This was the most compelling criterion for my choice of name for DD (different sound does it for me). Knew I'd regret not picking a name with that sound in it.

I like it and considered it, I love to hear an unusual, pretty name and it reminds me of the roses that grew around my house. The - ine ending is very feminine.

I know of one Albertine, and I always thought it was a little odd but interesting. I can't really imagine saying it out loud - it sounds weird coming out of my mouth. I do really like Alba as a nn though!

I might be wrong but wasn't the mother of Our Lady of the Flowers called Albertine? Maybe it was Ernestine. Its forty years since I read Genet. But that was what came to mind. There's nothing wrong with referencing French homosexual literature in your children's names. In fact, you could make it a theme. First Communion might make a nice name for another girl.

I had a pupil named Faustine. That's a nice name.

depends to an extent on the names of DC's 1, 2 & 3.
If you have a Hugo, Penelope and a Beatrice already, then yes I guess Albertine fits.

if on the other hand you have a Poppy a Daisy and a Scarlett it doesn't.

I think it is an exquisite name - but likely to be shortened to something not so nice like 'Bertie' or 'Tina' or 'Al'. It would make sense if there is an Albert to be named after.

I know a little Leooldine but find that a little long and clumsy.

To the poster who suggested we only choose names already popular, now that would be really dull! And a pain as we'd need surname initials to identify them all...
