Aurora - sleeping beauty or northern lights

Hello

Would appreciate some honest feedback...am 37 weeks pregnant with second daughter.

My current favourite name is Aurora but i want to know if people associate this with Disney/ Sleeping Beauty or with Aurora Borealis/ northern lights? I'm hoping it's the latter as dd1 doesn't have a 'disney princess' name but step daughter does and don't want her to feel left out! The many many joys of picking baby names!

Thanks ladies!

Lovely name

Normanpriceisnotarolemodel · 25/03/2016 20:47

To me, Aurora is a kinase.

emilygremily · 25/03/2016 20:35

Neither my niece is names aurora after a cruise ship :)

nectarini1983 · 25/03/2016 19:24

It's not the fact it's a disney princess name that worries me, seeping beauty is hardly newly released so everyone called Aurora in the last 60 years must have run that gauntlet. I'm giving more thought as to whether my other daughter will feel 'left out' if people will spot the connection with her half sisters name Jasmine - double Disney?! Would other ppl think to point his out? That's what's holding me back. Or am I way over thinking this?!

Aurora means 'The dawn' which is lovely :)

centigrade451 · 24/03/2016 15:38

Regardless of Disney or the Borealis - it is a beautiful name. It is the Roman goddess of sunrise.

I know of someone named Aurora and she was named after the Disney princess. She doesn't mind now but hated it in her teens.

I think Aurelia is a nice alternative.

PolkadotsAndMoonbeams · 24/03/2016 15:38

Sleeping Beauty, dawn and a colour of Swarovski crystal here.

Aurelia makes me think of Love Actually

mathanxiety · 23/03/2016 23:51

I'm not really up on my Disney princesses but I know it means Dawn, and imo Dawn is a very passe name, and in the same category as Sharon. So sadly I would put Aurora there, along with names like Amber and Tiffany.

I know an Alice who has been called Borey by her friends for many years now Smile.

I love Aurelia -- much more elegant name, and no baggage.

RalphSteadmansEye · 23/03/2016 21:40

I have found two of my people - hurrah! Aurora is ballet, not Disney!

nectarini1983 · 23/03/2016 20:15

Thank you! Still really torn..... I think I prefer Aurora to Aurelia though.

If it wasn't for the double Disney Princess concern I'd go for it in a flash.

Sleeping Beauty - but the Tchaikovsky/Petipa ballet, not Disney.

babyblabber · 23/03/2016 14:12

I would defo think of Disney & with Jasmine I'd think it was on purpose.

Beautiful name though. I had it on my list for DD2 but don't like Rory nickname so ruled it out

BreconBeBuggered · 23/03/2016 11:35

My first thought was the connection with the dawn, but I'm not very Disney. I knew a Jasmine for years and never once made that link.

I think Aurora's a name that's prettier on the page than on the tongue, though.

KoalaDownUnder · 23/03/2016 11:26

I love it.

I'd totally think Aurora Borealis, but I know nothing about Disney princesses.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 23/03/2016 10:46

I love aurora.
It was high in my list for dd. Until my friend said it was the name of a chain of hotels down south.
So I gave her another name. And my aunt said "like the hotel?"
Can't win...

whohasnickedmyvodka · 23/03/2016 10:28

My dd10 is an aurora and was named after the northern lights and I was never asked if she was named after a Disney character

rosieliveson1 · 23/03/2016 10:25

Disney for aurora definitely but not really for jasmine actually

whatevva · 23/03/2016 10:24

I always thought Disney nicked the name off the ballet.

Ballet or northern lights for me.

We had an Auriol at school (and there is one who lives down the road from me).

hollyisalovelyname · 23/03/2016 10:11

I ptefer Aurelie to Aurelia.
Which is better with your surname ?

joyfulworld · 23/03/2016 07:52

I think of the Northern Lights .

mrsschu · 23/03/2016 07:52

I really like the name Aurora. My first thought is of a book I read as a child - it was written by a Norwegian author and the main character was called Aurora. It was quite a progressive book at the time (80's) as in the story Aurora's father stayed home to mind the kids while her mother was the bread winner. Bit long winded but in summary, I wouldn't think of Disney (didn't actually know sleeping beauty's name was Aurora!).

RalphSteadmansEye · 23/03/2016 07:35

Sleeping Beauty to me, too, but the ballet, not the Disney film. Then Northern Lights. Wouldn't think Disney because I've never seen it (have a ds).

(Surely I'm not the only one? But have never seen my answer to the "Aurora" question before!)

HeadTilt · 23/03/2016 07:31

Due to having a 4yo DD I think Sleeping Beauty. Before I'd have thought Northern Lights. With Jasmine I would definitely think Disney Princesses.

Aurelia is lovely. Prefer it to Aurora, even without the a disney issue.

rugbychick · 23/03/2016 07:07

I know an adult Aurora, who is just lovely. Beautiful personality, and liked by everyone

IndomitabIe · 23/03/2016 07:03

I love Aurora! Deffo think of the aurora borealis (but also Aurora Illinois from one of my favourite films!).

If this bump had been a girl, Aurora would have been very high on the list (with nn 'Rory', in the style of Gilmore Girls!)
