When I say Arthur do you think.......

Do you think I've named my baby after Stacey in Eastenders???

DC2 due soon. First son is named Austin and so far my boys names are between Henry, Arthur and my DH likes Rafferty.

Girls names are Sylvie Ada, Robyn, Nina, Iris, Thea, Una.

I'm confident we could get a girls name but if it was a boy would everyone think we'd copied Eastenders? (I don't watch soaps and have no idea what characters are called. )

What do you think of our names?

It's a classic name that will never be too popular.

(It's DS's middle name Grin )

Thanks everyone! Just good to have a few opinions. I would have said Fowler too (showing my age...?)

Wasn't the aardvark called Otis?!

Yeah I know it's becoming more popular now but I'm in rural Scotland and so far I haven't encountered one single Arthur. It would be typical though to name a son that and see a massive rise in use Smile

Loving the posh monocle wearing snake idea Grin

No because Stacey's baby is Arfer not Arthur haha. I do fear it's going to get very popular though.

littlejolee · 23/03/2016 11:27

I think Arthur Dent as in the hitch hickers guide to the galaxy cos im a bad nerd so I think it's pretty cool :)

SquirrelledAway · 23/03/2016 11:20

I'd think aardvark.

Kajamite · 23/03/2016 08:57

It's a lovely name!

I might be biased though as it was my granddad's name and we're choosing it as a middle name Grin

BettyBi0 · 23/03/2016 08:54

I'd never think Eastenders as its a pretty common name anyway.

Rafferty goes much better with Austin though

BatmanLovesPeaceAndQuiet · 23/03/2016 08:49

I think Weasley, but I know real life child Arthurs and I only connect their name with themselves, if you see what I mean!

UntilTheCowsComeHome · 23/03/2016 08:47

I always want to say it in a strangled Cockney accent a la Eastenders when hear the name.

Aaarrrffffeeeeeerrrr!!

Izzyathome · 22/03/2016 23:35

Yup Aurthur Fowler here too! But that connection is way out of date and with all the baby Arthurs around now it will soon only be associated with little ones.

MamaLazarou · 21/03/2016 13:50

Arthur is a brilliant name.

I don't like Rafferty at all. It sounds like the name of a posh cartoon snake with a monocle.

DaisyFranceLynch · 21/03/2016 10:37

I like all of them though. I think Rafferty and Henry work a bit better with Austin (partly because of Arthur starting with the same initial) but any of them could work.

DaisyFranceLynch · 21/03/2016 10:34

I don't watch Eastenders and don't even know who Stacey is, let alone Arthur. I think it's a nice, slightly old-fashioned name of a type which has been coming back into fashion recently (our grandparents'/great grandparents' generation of names). So maybe Eastenders is just reflecting this trend.

Henry is more popular but in a sort of evergreen way (like James or William, the sort of name that is almost always in the top twenty) and Rafferty feels more trendy. I think of it as being an arty middle-class sort of name. Wasn't one of Jude Law's children called Rafferty?

Ludwsys · 21/03/2016 10:15

I watch eastenders but I wouldn't have thought of either of the Arthur Fowlers (being the full name of both the granddad and the baby). I know one who is in year 4, so age 9. He suits it.

FishWithABicycle · 21/03/2016 09:47

I vetoed Arthur despite it being one of DHs favourite names because whilst I don't watch eastenders now I used to in the 80s and Arthur for me is Arthur Fowler middle aged in slippers and having a nervous breakdown. I couldn't imagine calling a baby that name not just because of that but because it's in the same category for me as Mavis and Edna - names that belong to a previous age. However, Mavis and Edna have been making a comeback and I suppose Arthur will too

bingeddybongo · 21/03/2016 09:45

I've got an Arthur :) The only connection anyone ever makes with him where I am is with King Arthur, but I'm not in the UK. And I haven't watched Eastenders for a good ten years I'd say, but Arthur Fowler never even occurred to me! ;)

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 21/03/2016 09:32

Well I would probably pick another name if his big brother is Austin but that's not because of any particular connotations, just for me the two names don't run together.

By itself it's a fine old name. I haven't met any baby Arthurs.

If pressed, King Arthur then a cartoon aardvark crossed my mind. I don't watch EE.

sonlypuppyfat · 21/03/2016 09:25

I went to school with an Arthur, this was in the days of Gary and Darren, and I used to think poor boy fancy being stuck with an old man's name, and I still think that

Jemimapuddleduk · 21/03/2016 09:21

I love it. You have my 2 dc's names in your list and others that were on our shortlist. We obviously have the same fabulous taste in names! You can't go wrong with any of those choices.

KaraokeQueenOfTheNorth · 21/03/2016 09:19

I think King Arthur. (And the little boy from DD's preschool). I think its a lovely name.

hollyisalovelyname · 21/03/2016 09:01

I think Guinness.
Arthur Guinness founded the brewery and a couple of years ago as a marketing ploy 'Arthur's Day' was introduced. I'm not sure if it was world wide ir just based in Ireland.
There were gigs on- I remember my older dcs went to some.

SolsburyHell · 21/03/2016 08:57

When you say Arthur, I think Fowler. I don't know any in real life, that's why.

It's nice, but I don't watch Eastenders. I'd think more of Arthur Fowler than Stacey's baby! i don't think that people would make that link, and characters do tend to leave quite quickly anyway. Go for it, it's a good choice!
