Registrar appointment 2 hours and no name

I know that not everyone believes in life after death ( so please accept my apologies if this offends you - not my intention) but I hope you don't mind me giving you a different perspective, a more positive one in saying, Dextyboo, as someone who has had proof on numerous occasions of life after death. Stillborn as well as miscarriages, the spirit of the child still lives on in the spirit world. So your little boy is still very much around you.

Perhaps that might give you some comfort and lesson the pain when hearing his name; as that's the name you know him as ( despite falling out of love with it) and connect with him in your heart. I had to say something as I really felt for you having such a strong reaction.

when i was pregnant with my ds i loved the name baxter, sadly he was stillborn. my partner was dead set on one name which i didnt mind so we named him that. now everytime i hear the word baxter i physically cringe and i was so set on it at the time.

as people have said maybe another look through names now your ds is here, maybe one will jump out at you.

Do you think maybe it's not any of them if you are so unsure?

Go back to the drawing board and try out other names! Good luck.

Here are my thoughts about your name ideas:

Rex
I've never actually met a dog called Rex and I'm a dog walker! But I know it was a traditional name for dogs for decades so some people will still have that association. I don't particularly like it anyway. It's too short IMO, sounds like a nickname although I know it is a whole name.

Huxley
Adults might remember that Huxley was associated with a cartoon pig but that TV show ran for one year from 1989 to 1990 so no one in your son's generation will know about it. I quite like the name, I think it's unusual in a good way.

Zachary
This is my favourite, classic, nice meaning and I like the nickname Zac.

Have you considered Ezekiel or Zachariah?

Dax. I knew someone at university with that name and thought it was the coolest name I had ever heard shelteredlife

I thought the suggestion of Max was a good one, a great solid name and suits your other kids well.

OP, personally I love your style/taste and also would pick Rex as the name that goes beautifully with your other DC's (love that there would be a "y" from Freya, 'Z' from Zander and 'x' from Rex!) and is a great, cool, individual but not crazily out there name.
Think as others have said maybe choose your favourite and start to call ds it and see how it feels before you make your decision.

If it's to the point where you need an extension to name and register you baby. Perhaps the names you're thinking of aren't right for your boy. There are other boys names out there besides.... Rex. Huxley and Zachary.

I don't need to calm down at all scatty, perfectly relaxed. I just personally hate the name Rex.
The same as some MNers hate the names Kai, Jayden, Artemis, Hortensia etc etc I am sure.
I have seen the name I called my kid slated on here, but you know what, I got over it. If a random stranger disliking the name on the internet caused me serious emotional damage (on a forum which does regularly review baby names!) I would have to have a serious look at myself.

Sounds to me you and hubby are only half-hearted about the names on your shortlist. Had you been truely excited about any of them, there would be no need for an extension.

Your son deserves better than a half-hearted name that clearly neither you or your husband are that crazy about. I'd scrap all of them and go through a list of baby names again with fresh eyes. Now your son is here, one of the names you didn't think about before might now catch your eye and fit him.
