I've also seen Artiom spelled Artem and Artyom, btw. Taught a few of these over the years!

IoraRua · 20/03/2016 22:43

Asher - the best of the lot, I like it.
Archer - fine, I'm not hugely keen but nothing wrong with it.
Alban - grand, neither here nor there on it.
Arlo - really dislike. There's just something about it that feels very hipstery to me.
Ambrose - this is dreadful, sorry.

Alaric, Artiom, Alistair might all fit your criteria?

LightTurquoise · 20/03/2016 17:49

Asher James is lovely, so is Archer James - not keen on the others...

RingUpRingRingDown · 18/03/2016 12:42

James Arlo

Really don't like the other 3

HackerFucker22 · 18/03/2016 12:35

Archer if I had to pick

Don't like any of the others.

Have to concur that James is by far the nicest name I have seen on this thread.

Cleopatrasdaughter - OP here, what's the big difference between Archer and Asher that one is beyond awful and the other is great? Very interested as I quite like both and thought they were fairly similar.

1.Archer - handsome, cool, classic, Victorian (option to use Archie to be more mainstream).
2.Arlo - cute, hippie, creative, cool.
3.Ambrose - old school, unusual (but not keen on the food connection?).
4.Asher - I know two Ashers and one Asha, all three are of Indian origin. I like it, however I have a strong personal dislike for the male name Ashley and so the inevitable nn of Ash makes it a no-go for me.
5.Alban - could be a grower, but slightly too unusual for me.

Love Asher James.

ALittleGirlIsDue · 16/03/2016 21:30

Ash is nicer as a NN, to Arch... I prefer Archer, if the NN was Archie, but if not, Asher is a lot better, but I prefer Ashley

Ambrose is the only one I like, really, though.

Arlo is really popular among the yummy mummies where I am. I dont like it at all.

Archer is beyond awful. Alban a bit strange.

BroadcastHouse · 16/03/2016 21:00

Thing is I know so very many Arlos. Someone on another thread described Arlo as very 'Stroud', which is obviously spot on as we live just outside of Stroud ha.

Arlo then Asher.

BroadcastHouse · 16/03/2016 20:50

Thanks all. What about Asher compared to those above? I quite like the nicknames Arch and Ash.

Ambrose is horrible, sorry. It's like a hybrid of Amber and Rose. Very effeminate.
