Corben or Arlo

These names are different to my children'e names, but me and DH just cannot agree on any boy names. He loves Magnus, while I don't hate it I think it is too strong for siblings Charlie and Tilly.

DH likes Norse and strong sounding names, so far the ones I didn't completely nix were Arlo and Corben.

opinions on these names please :)

Sorry, but Torin Douglas's name was spelled that way, not with 2 x 'R'. Torin is a Gaelic name, probably meaning 'chief'.

'Na Torrain' is a settlement on Skye; the name means 'little hills' - it is plural.www.gaelicplacenames.org/databasedetails.php?id=343 The Gaelic singular would be 'Torran'; the place name has I think been angicised as 'Torrin' but it is not generally used as a personal name. I suppose it could be, however...

Carlo is the Italian version of Charles. It is not related to Arlo at all.

How about Torrin - it's a village on Skye and there's a chap who broadcasts on R4 called Torrin Douglas.

Genuine question - does it really matter how siblings' names go together? They spend such a tiny proportion of their lives being spoken of in the same breath, don't they?

I guess if two had a really strong similarity and then #3 was hugely different I might briefly notice it. But I don't think either Magnus or Arlo are wow!outthere next to Tilly and Charlie.

Another vote for Otto and Soren, and most of all for Asa which I've already earmarked for as-yet-imaginary DS2. Grin

I live South West England - FellOutOfBedTwice and never would have made that connection but thank you.
RoseDawson - yes her FULL name is Tilly - picked for sentimental reasons, but I didn't ask for opinions on my children's names :).
RockUnit -like Milo (but auntie's dog is called Milo) and Reuben
AKissACuddleAndACheekyFinger - love Arthur, we had originally picked this name but my friend said how lovely it sounded and is going to name her son Arthur.

I'm afraid j agree with all the Corben=Jeremy. I know it's not the same but it sounds the same.

Is Benji Norse enough for your DH? That would go well with your other DC names.

Corben = Jeremy Corbyn at the moment. I would avoid it. In any case I don't like surnames as first names which I assume this is.

Arlo was on my list for DS for about 5 minutes before I decided it would date quickly. I do still like it though...

Thanks for setting me right flora. We have an Arlo in DD's nursery and that's what I came up with googling, but my research was pretty shallow...

Arlo is not 'old English for Charles'.
It was possibly based on an English version of a Gaelic-Irish place name, first used in a late 16th cent poem, which mentions 'Arlo Hill'. It is reminiscent of the modern place name Harlow, which means 'temple hill' or 'army hill' in Anglo-Saxon and is a not very nice new town.

Corbie is Scots for 'carrion crow'. The name Corbin or Corbyn (usual spellings, not with an 'e') is related, and comes from the French word for crow. It also means 'dark-haired', that is, with hair as dark as a crow.

Where in the country are you OP? I'm in east London and Arlo just makes me think of someone from round here saying the name of a very shit new town on a line that runs out of Liverpool Street. I imagine anyone within travelling distance of Harlow will think the same thing and it's not a town you want to be associated with. As such I would go with Corbin as old Jezza is a better association.

The names don't grab me tbh, I just didn't say no straight away and wanted opinions on them.

Just hate it being so hard this time round finding a name!

I like Max, DH doesn't.
