Modern Arabic Boy Names

Hi everyone, I just found out I am having a baby boy and while I had a long list of girl names I liked I do not have many boy names. So far I have chosen names like zayn,laith,hadi, and elyas. My husband likes none. I like 1-syllable names that are short and easy, but he likes names a little more 'traditional'. We live in the US but are of Arabic origin and practice Islam so I'd like a Muslim/Arabic name that would be easy to say in the US. I liked names like ayman also but just thought it would get my son teased in school! I have one daughter named 'Tala' so I would like something to match that as well. Any and all suggestions are welcome :)

I think Saif is a nice name. My 2 DSs are called Samir and Zain.

I like Saif! I know it sounds similar to the English word safe but atleast that makes it easy to pronounce though! I don't think people should make fun of it. I haven't come across any/many compared to layth that you hear a lot but it has the same kind of feel as layth to me (probably cos they rhyme)

Oh sorry, didn't see the second page of this thread. I don't think it sounding like safe would be a huge problem in my opinion, although Sy-eef is a nicer pronunciation to my ears.

The Kh in Khalid would just be pronounced as a K by English speakers. If you're okay with that then Khalid won't actually be difficult for people in the US.

If your husband likes Abdulaziz and you like shorter names, what about just Aziz?

Hi everyone! Thank you for all of the great suggestions... I'm almost a month shy of my due date and we have agreed on the name Saif. I really like it and was finally happy to have decided.. However I got many mixed reactions that abroad Saif would be made fun of because it sounds the same as the English word, Safe. Any thoughts.. ?

Headtilt, I love the name Laith, unfortunately a very close friend of ours has just recently given birth and named her some that.

I completely agree, I'm going to try and get at least a few more names out of him :)

A Muslim friend has just called her new baby Nabeel - I love it! I love Khalid, too. How about Habib?

Hi Katarzyna79 , thank you for your suggestions.

He mentioned a few names.. Khalid..Abdulaziz..Hamad.

But all of these cant be properly pronounced in English. There are so many letters in Arabic that are difficult to say in English which seems to be my biggest problem.

My favorite name so far is Adam with runnersup being Zaid, Zein, and Amir.

I do like Hassan a lot and he's 'okay' with it, but I have gotten constant negative feedback when I mention it to anyone. Especially since its not my 'favorite' name I'm very hesitant.

My husband has been insisting on the name Khalid. Its a nice name but that was my major concern, its so hard having a name in the US with the KH sound.

Our 3 have arabic middle names - DS is Omar.

dot yes I thght I included that then I deleted it I think. Benyamin aka Benjamin is a muslim name.

My FIL is a muslim chap. We called our son Ben and he liked it as it's an Arabic name. We didn't tell him that we had planned to name him after a Scottish mountain but couldn't pick which one so covered them all Wink. It's all good.

OP don't go with Saif like you said he could get teased for that.

I don't think you need to be limited to 1 syllable names to make ti easy to pronounce, and most boys names are pretty easy to pronounce.

it sounds like your husband likes strong sounding muslim names like powerful sounding ones. you mentioned Khalid for example. So I can understand why he doesn't like any of the ones you suggested. Nothing wrong with them just you have a different style to him. Why doesn't he help you then! lol

khalid isn't hard but if they called him kalid without the h sound its not so bad is it? I think it depends if its completely unpronounceable, but slight differences I wouldn't be bothered, its to be expected.

There are so many boys names and most are pretty easy to pronounce.

My brother is called Khalid and he really struggled with it. No one can ever pronounce it properly!

I saw someone on TV on a US show called Khalid and it was pronounced weird. In the UK (depending where in UK I suppose) I don't think we struggle as much.

Kamran is nice, so is Jassim...and Hayder!

I shared a million choices with my husband.. ( Adam, Zayn, Zaid, Rayyan,Jassim,Saif,Amir) and probably many more.

He didn't like any. He likes Khalid and Abdulaziz. I hate both and feel like they are SO difficult to pronounce correctly in the US or nearly anywhere outside the Middle East for that matter.

If anyone has anymore names please share!
