Cannot decide between the following names, i have a mum and a mother in law who do not keep their opinions or suggestions quiet so i need to be firm in my own mind so arent swayed by one of them in my post birth hormonal vulnerable state

Clara ---love it but worries it will get mistaken for cara and also seems popular on here? dont want a faddy name
Megan - too boring? our son has welsh name would go nicely
Jenna - not sure i like Jen but could grow on me also would go with our sons name
Hannah - too boring? or classic?
Lydia - love Lyds as nn but is it too biblical?

I have a Megan and Lydia was also on my list, Megan won out for me because my other dd also has an 'm' name and I liked the way they sounded together.
Clara is lovely too and would have been on my list but her middle name is Claudia and Clara Claudia doesn't sound good!

ddeemummy · 12/03/2016 09:16

Clara - very pretty, seems to be quite trendy at moment but not sure how long for

Megan - Nice

Jenna - My favourite from your list. Not something you hear everyday

Hannah - BIt bland (sorry)

Lydia - Beautiful my second choice

julfin · 12/03/2016 08:38

I think Clara and Lydia are both really lovely names. If you decide to use them both, make sure it's Lydia Clara, not Clara Lydia (for the reason spacepoodle said - although I think it only applies if you put the two names together).

The rest of the names are nice too.

dimdommilpot · 11/03/2016 20:08

Lydia biased We also call her Lyds.

Sofiria · 11/03/2016 19:27

I like Clara, Hannah and Lydia. Clara Lydia is a great combination.

Megan is super popular where I am and Jenna sounds dated (I also have a personal aversion as a bully at my school was named Jenna, so I may be biased there.)

bluespiral · 11/03/2016 16:34

Anything but Jenna. Sounds like an American porn actress name.

LikeASoulWithoutAMind · 11/03/2016 11:35

Have always loved Hannah - a beautiful classic name.

Clara and Lydia are both gorgeous too.

Megan is fine but there are lots of them. It would make a good middle name though? (I wouldn't choose a first and middle name both ending in A personally)

Not so keen on Jenna.

Remember this is none of your DM/MIL's business! Even if you haven't decided by the birth so what? If you're not confident to say we'll let you know when we've decided then just tell them you've narrowed it down to two but are waiting to meet her to see which suits her best.

3luckystars · 11/03/2016 11:22

I think they are all lovely! When she is born you can just pick one and that will be that, they will get used to it. Great choices, and best of luck!!

Ceeceecee · 11/03/2016 11:14

Oh I love Clara Megan. And if those are your two favourites use them!

spacepoodle · 11/03/2016 10:25

I love Clara! Megan is also beautiful. Both are on my list.

Lydia always makes me think of chlamydia, sorry.

Cuppaand2biscuits · 11/03/2016 10:13

I love all of your names! I don't think Clara will be mistaken for Cara. I wanted to name my dd Cara but was worried about it being mistaken for Tara or Lara!

ABitAsleep · 11/03/2016 10:05

Clara - I like it! Don't think it would be mistaken for Cara, but it is quite popular at the moment which would put me off.
Megan - I like it, but it's nothing special.
Jenna - okay, but I prefer Jenny or Gemma.
Hannah - Love! Defintley my favourite and not too boring! Lovely and beautiful!
Lydia - I'm not religious, but i wouldn't relate it to being biblical. I personally don't like it, think its a quite boring and dull.

ScarletForYa · 10/03/2016 20:59

Clara is my favorite of those.

Allalonenow · 10/03/2016 20:48

I like Lydia best by a long way. It's classy and unusual.

Clara is lovely too, and I don't think it would be mistaken for Cara, but Clara has had a big spike in popularity lately.

I'm not keen on the other names.

CruCru · 10/03/2016 20:41

I like Hannah and Lydia.

LotsofDots · 10/03/2016 20:21

I like Megan and Clara best.
I always associate the name Lydia with the comedy song Lydia the tattooed lady, as performed by Kermit once on Sesame Street. But that's just me.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 10/03/2016 19:32

Clara is fine.

My favourite from your list is Hannah. I have Hannah's in my life through all the decades - 50's, 40's, 30's, 20's, teens. A true classic, but not zillions of them.

Pinkheart5915 · 10/03/2016 19:31

From your list I would pick Megan

Raines100 · 10/03/2016 19:30

Clara is not faddy. It's beautiful. Lydia is also gorgeous.
Jenna is nice, but not as nice as the previous two.
The world has enough Megans, all of whom seem to live near me.
Hannah is a solid girls name- I've just never liked it.

Youreadthebabybooks · 10/03/2016 19:28

Ha ha ha I have never watched dr who but that is quite funny !

AuntieStella · 10/03/2016 19:23

The problem with Clara Jenna is that more people than you'd expect will quietly assume you're passionate Whovians (last companion, Clara, was played by an actor called Jenna). Of course, quite possibly you are passionate Whovians and that's exactly why you put those two together.

coffeeinaredmug · 10/03/2016 19:18

They are all lovely. I like Hannah best followed by Megan and then Clara.

WomanScorned · 10/03/2016 17:51

Megan and Jenna sound dated, to me.
Clara is lovely, but I do know 2 under 6 months.
I like Hannah, though prefer Honor.

More importantly, it's none of my business! I've had my turn at naming my own children. As have your DM and DMIL.

PotteringAlong · 10/03/2016 17:46

If you're not worried about Hannah being biblical then don't worry about Lydia!

AuntJane · 10/03/2016 17:44

Make up a name that you know they would hate and tell them that's what you're going to name your daughter. Do not enter into any discussions.

When she is born, tell them her real name. They will be so relieved!
