So our daughter finally arrived 10 days late in the car park outside the hospital! Thank you to everyone on here who helped us to choose her name, which we love. She will be Sylvie and registered as Sylvia. We just ran it by my MIL who hates it and was very rude about the whole thing. Mainly because she had already decided we were calling her Martha and has been banging on about it for months. Trouble is we don't like it!
Now we need a middle name to go with Sylvia so we can officially announce her name and drive it home to MIL that she's not getting her way. Any help with this? Nothing too popular please and also we think one syllable names work best with Sylvia. Xx

Lovely name, good choice.

Where did Martha come from?? I'm still shocked at how outspoken some people are. Fair enough if you are being outspoken about something that directly affects you but this is another level of arrogance.

NerrSnerr · 18/02/2016 18:56

I like Beth, Joy, Rose or Grace.

Serioussteve · 18/02/2016 18:41

Really like Rose and Fern.

Really put your foot down with MIL or she will attempt to constantly undermine you.

Many congratulations on your bundle of fun :)

OhPuddleducks · 18/02/2016 18:41

Love this name. I know it's a bit 80s but I think Sylvia Louise sounds nice

TheScottishPlay · 18/02/2016 18:39

Sylvie Ruth
Sylvie Arden
Sylvie Cora
Sylvie Jayne

MamaLazarou · 18/02/2016 18:36

ScarletForYa · 18/02/2016 18:31

Yes, Sylvia Rose

AdoraBell · 18/02/2016 18:28

I'm inclined to go along with Mitzy's no nonsense two finger salute approach... Wink Grin

Congratulations cupcake Thanks

DinosaursRoar · 18/02/2016 18:20

oh and I like Sylvia Joy, Sylvia Grace and Sylvia Rose from the previous suggestions.

DinosaursRoar · 18/02/2016 18:19

Goddessofsmallthings and Gleekstar - perhaps because they consider Sylvie to be cute for a little girl, want to give her a grown up name if as an adult, she's not really a "cutsy name" sort of woman.

Sylvia is a very strong name - it makes me think of the sort woman of who knows how to tie a silk scarf at her neck without looking like an air hostess. For an adult woman, it's a fabulous name, but a bit much for a toddler, so great to have a cute name for now.

Myredcardigan · 18/02/2016 18:17

I love Sylvia Jean, Sylvie Jean sounds lovely and reminds me of Jean Louise (Scout Finch).
I also liked the suggestions of,
Sylvia Joy
Sylvia Frances

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/02/2016 18:11

Give her Sylvia as a middle name too. In caps.

Sylvia SYLVIA Smith. Just to get the message home to granny.

SmallGreenBouncyBall · 18/02/2016 18:09

you don't have to give her a middle name.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 18/02/2016 18:05

I also like Pearl and Fearne, which have been suggested. It's such a pretty name that it will still sound lovely whatever you team it with.

MitzyLeFrouf · 18/02/2016 18:05

I definitely wouldn't hyphenate. Hyphenated names are too fussy.

DingleberryFinn · 18/02/2016 18:03

You could always go for an "out there" middle name, and then appear to come back from that to a more "mainstream" name as a concession to MIL - propose Sylvia Egg or something... Or you could say that as MIL hates Sylvia so much, you're considering swapping to the middle name and calling her Egg Sylvia? Watch her backtrack...

goddessofsmallthings · 18/02/2016 18:01

I agree with gleekster. Why register your dd's name as Sylvia when she'll be known as Sylvie?

Sylvie is a beautiful name and I'd choose another name that could be hyphenated with it, eg Sylvie-Rose, Sylvie-Jane, Sylvie-Beth, Sylvie-Marissa, Sylvie-Marianna, Sylvie-Eloise, Sylvie-Francoise and so forth, to give dd more choice about what she wants to be called when she grows up and to provide the option of adding a third as the 'middle' name as, for me, 3 is the optimum number of Christian names for one dc.

woopywoo · 18/02/2016 17:56

Sylvie Faye came to mind.
What is with these people who actually tell people a different version of the name chosen? What the actual?

SfaOkaySuperFurryAnimals · 18/02/2016 17:54

Sylvia Lucille
I have a Lucille Grin very rare....

jamenhej · 18/02/2016 17:49

Haha xpost with Rivertam, I promise I didn't see your post and just stick your suggestions together!!

jamenhej · 18/02/2016 17:48

Whatdoidohelp · 18/02/2016 17:48
