Anna, Miranda, Charlotte or Cordelia?

Hi all

I'm hoping you can yank me out my brain fog - I'm 39 wks and need a name for impending DD. I thought I'd made a decision but I'm not sure what I like anymore!

I had previously settled on Anna - classic, simple, beautiful. But I have a niggling feeling it's a little bit dull and I could do better for my DD.

Other options are Miranda (DH very keen), Charlotte (I don't like the nicknames hugely) or Cordelia (ditto re nicknames). I also (think!) I like Catherine (Kitty), Henrietta and Antonia.

Should I stick with Anna or do you like any of my others better? Help!

Anna. Such a pretty, international and classic name.

Miranda is ugly to my ears. Charlotte is too associated with the princess right now. I quite like a Cordelia but it's quite a name to live with whereas Anna is so easy to live with.

I'd love to see a baby Anna, it'd make a change from baby Olivia, Olivia, Evie, Ava, Eva and Olivia. Gorgeous name. Although I live Miranda too. And Charlotte. And Cordelia.

I love Anna. It is timeless. I had a childhood friend (a very very long time ago) who used to boast that she could write her name both forwards and backwards, before I could even spell my name forwards (longish name).

For dd3 my shortlist was Anna, Emma or Charlotte. I love all three names but went with Charlotte in the end and it isn't shortened - I don't like any of the shortenings either. She's only 19 months though so there's still time for a nickname to come when she starts school but for now she's just Charlotte.

I have an Anna. I love it just as much now. It's quite cute but also elegant, is international, timeless and kind of classless. (ok it's quite middle class but not as achingly so as Cordelia and Charlotte). You also don't actually come across many. She's always been the only one at whatever group.

Anna, Kitty or Charlotte for me.

cornishglos · 17/02/2016 20:13

Anna. For all the reasons you said.

IoraRua · 17/02/2016 19:04

Miranda.
I did think of the TV show but that will ve quickly forgotten imo.

Anna is fine but just not grabbing me iyswim.

I like Anna too but am perhaps biased Wink.

Does no - one associate Miranda with the tv programme? It doesn't say elegant, classic etc in the way Anna does.

I do like Kitty and Charlotte too but they are quite popular here.

Robertaquimby · 17/02/2016 18:56

Miranda

Or Anne Cordelia if you liked Anne of Green Gables.

WingMirrorSpider · 17/02/2016 18:54

Anna all the way. Elegant, classic and international.

thebiscuitindustry · 17/02/2016 18:52

Out of Anna and Miranda, I definitely prefer Miranda.

mrsschu · 17/02/2016 18:32

Anna - it's classic and classy!

MrsMarigold · 17/02/2016 18:25

Anna - great name

GoldPlatedBacon · 17/02/2016 18:24

Antonia is my favourite followed by Miranda

Gracey79 · 17/02/2016 18:23

Another vote for Anna Smile

Swollenankles83 · 17/02/2016 18:21

There does seem to be a pervasive liking for Anna so perhaps I should go with my original instincts. I never thought naming her would be this hard - it's all feeling very final rather than a lovely hypothetical baby name conversation!

I love Miranda and what a better meaning than marvelous! It's pretty and not very common with nice nn options, especially Mira :)

Graceymac · 17/02/2016 17:35

I have a DD named Anna and I love it. I think it is a beautiful classic name that will never go out of favour. My Anna certainly isn't dull, she is full of beans!

Pidapie · 17/02/2016 17:29

I like Anna and Charlotte :)

Winifredgoose · 17/02/2016 17:06

I like Anna and Miranda.

Doublebubblebubble · 17/02/2016 17:06

I would choose Charlotte. Cordelia reminds me of Buffy. X

ppandj · 17/02/2016 17:04

I can't tell you how I know this Wink but Anna is a very good name. Only downside is that it often gets confused with Hannah, which is a lovely name still, but seems to be much more common where I live and people seem to think Anna is made up! Confused

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 17/02/2016 16:52

I like Anna but love Kitty.

With your choices can I suggest Marina on its own or with the nn Marnie.

Swollenankles83 · 17/02/2016 16:49

Thank you for your helpful comments! I think it we've narrowed it down to Anna or Miranda (which I'm finding equally difficult!) Confused
