Help with welsh baby names!

Dh's family are welsh, and we're keen to use a welsh name for our baby.

The two we current like the best are Dylan for a boy and Ffion Gwyneth for a girl. Can anyone please suggest other welsh names for us to consider?

I'm not welsh at all, but a bit concerned that Dylan and Ffion are lovely names but a bit too popular - though that might not matter living in England. I was the most popular girls name for the year I was born and really want to avoid that for my baby!

I'm Welsh and I hear Seren regularly (it means Star). Other names I like are include:

I like Dilys though I think it's spelt like that. Also Nia and Erin.

Really love Huw. Welsh but still accessible?

Hi OP, Dilys is quite an old fashioned name and not heard that often these days (at least not where I live in N. Wales).
Dylan's a good choice & can be pronouned Dillon or D-uh-lan.

If you like Bronwyn, how about Branwen?

I don't know any Merryns or Merediths but do know Meirions, Meilir & Meredydd (all boys names).

Mali, Mabli & Mai are all nice girls names. Mari sounds quite similar to Merry

My favourite Welsh boys names are Llyr and Llew but possibly not what you're looking for due to potential pronunciation difficulties.
I quite like Gethin and Gruffydd.
I like Angharad, Aeronwy, Elin, Eluned.

I know a ceinwen and it's a nice name but she wishes she wasn't called it because it is a nightmare to spell and people just don't know how to say it. She actually thinks it's lost her work over the years as people really haven't got a clue how to say it outside wales.

Socks - how is Gwilym pronounced? Beautiful names for your kids. Can I ask, did you learn welsh and do your kids speak it?

Thanks for the positive feedback on Dylan, Lissie. Sadly Owen and Rhys are off the list as they are close family names. I am almost cross that bil got there first with Reece (they didn't even spell it the good way! ) but as nephew is teens now, we can't really use it! It's a lovely name, and really does suit rugby mad dnephew!

Bronwyn is very pretty. I also like the name ceinwen (sp?) as I knew someone nice at school with that name.

Do you think it would matter different people pronouncing Dylan differently? Would it drive my child mad having different sets of family pronouncing it differently? I already can imagine the grief I'll get from my parents not choosing a 'good, solid biblical name' - their words not mine! - I think I'd struggle to get them pronouncing Dylan anything other than the English way.

I absolutely love the name Dylan! I'm not particularly familiar with Welsh names, but I'll give it a shot! :)
