Margot, Evelyn, Lainey or Nina?

Just that really.... How would you rank these names?

Now I don't mean to be a geek but there were........

1368 15 Lilys born in 2001

2907 Amelias born in 2006

187 Elodies born in 2011 (and even currently that name is still way outside the Top 100)

But yes a lot can happen in a decade and a name can go from obscure to mega popular for loads of reasons.

We know 3 Lily's. 14,14 and 15.

Amelias aged 14, 12,11 and 11. And 4...

No Elodies though. Might have to wait for dd to start school for that 'treat'

Evelyn is lovely but unfortunately they often end up as Evie. I also liked Eleanor when pg but couldn't get around the Ellie nn.

Lainey is sweet and unusual. Nina feels a bit old, but still sweet and easy to say/write.

Eve-lyn/ ev-lyn/ ever-lyn has too many variants. I always read it as eve-lyn as I only know one, and that's how she says it.

Evelyn - pure classic
Margot & Lainey (tied) - both classic with a twist.
Nina - Nina & the Neurons spring to mind. Not the worst association though.

A lot can happen in a decade Jings.

There aren't many fifteen year old Lilys, ten year old Amelias or even five year old Elodies.

There were only 104 Margots born in 2014. It's hardly on an Amelia trajectory just yet! Some names are mentioned on MN a lot but it doesn't mean they're used a lot in real life.

Nina is fab, classic, ageless, unusual.

Margot is becoming ubiquitously try hard: read popular.

Evelyn is fine but nothing remarkable.

I could grow to like Lainey. On the right person. It's one of those difficult to encompass names.

Love Nina! Followed by Margot. Evelyn is a bit boring IMO. Lainey is OK but sounds a bit too nicknamey for me

Would you like Helena or Elaine more than Lainey though? Maybe as a compromise?
(Personally I don't really like naming a baby after someone else, not sure why, I would prefer it as a middle name to honour the relative really.)

Just to reiterate that Lainey is DH's grandmother's name. On her birth certificate it was Lainey. Not Helena or Elaine.

The grandmother's middle name was Alice which is already one of our older daughter's names. Although we didn't consciously name Alice after her great grandmother.

I love Nina and Margot.

Evelyn I don't mind but I really don't like Lainey. My cousin went to school with twins called Lenny and Lainey. I think the combo has put me off both names!

Lainey is a nickname for Helena. (Or Hellleeiiiiina as some pronounce with American accent) It's the americanised version of the diminutive Leni and Heleni ( in German and Slavic languages but in English, it sound more like the boys' name Lenny).
