Thinking of changing 7 weeks olds name!

My DD is 7 weeks old, and my husband has never been happy with her name. I am now also starting to have doubts, and am wondering if we should change it! Has anyone else changed the name quite late on?

I couldn't use a name that my dh didn't also like so for that reason I'd change it to something you're both ok with.
I desperately wanted to call dd Georgina a name I'd always liked but he really didn't like it- he did like Georgia so we reached a happy middle and her name really suits her- I completely love it.

BettyBi0 · 23/01/2016 23:31

Willow is so much nicer!

FriendofBill · 19/01/2016 23:34

No one would associate willow with being willowy unless she was.
It would just be her name. And she will grow into it.

Unless you think she is not a willow OP?

I did a name change btw, and no regrets!

fondationmaeght · 19/01/2016 20:48

Willow is so lovely

Doublebubblebubble · 19/01/2016 20:39

Much much much prefer Willow. Scarlett always makes me think of scar/s (mho) x

Whatdoidohelp · 19/01/2016 20:36

Oh that's a lovely name Smile

Squashybanana · 19/01/2016 20:35

I personally think Willow is problematic. Someone at some point will point out 'pussy willow' and she will get teased. Also it is a lovely name for a slender beauty but if she turns out to be overweight it is almost mean, like her name is taunting her. A bit like a tiny guy being called Lanky.

Its a shame because it is gorgeous for a baby.

I think if you do decide to change her name it seems straightforward in terms of process.

universallyhated · 19/01/2016 19:35

Willow is a gorgeous name, why not add Scarlett as her middle name?

SanityClause · 19/01/2016 19:31

I like Willow. I know it's quite popular, but it's so elegant.

I hate it when people are rude about a baby's name. I mean, if I said, "hi, I'm Hildegard", you wouldn't say "ooooh, Hildegard! I really hate that name!" would you?

Rude!

GracieGraives · 19/01/2016 19:24

I prefer scarlett

Wardrobespierre · 19/01/2016 17:30

Willow is so much nicer than Scarlett. No comparison.

iciclewinter · 19/01/2016 17:26

I prefer Willow to Scarlett.

angelinalo · 19/01/2016 17:07

Willow is far, far nicer than Scarlett. I would keep it if you love it.

Sunshine511 · 19/01/2016 17:00

Scarlett is lovely but you may find she might get the nn Scar, which I think is awful! Worth bearing in mind before doing a name change.x

brookeberry · 19/01/2016 16:54

Not helpful, but Willow is beautiful. I guess it would help if you and DH agree (or one is happy to give in!). We are trying to decide on a name just now, we both love one but I know family won't and we'll just have to ignore them Grin

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 19/01/2016 16:51

If you like Scarlett as well, I'd change it.

OhShutUpThomas · 19/01/2016 16:50

Willows lovely. Scarlett not so much.

squoosh · 19/01/2016 16:50

Ignore 'various family members'. It's what you and your husband think that counts. But there's no point changing it if you yourself aren't hugely keen on the name Scarlett.

NameChange30 · 19/01/2016 16:47

I much prefer Willow to Scarlett, but my opinion doesn't matter. What about you? Do you like Scarlett? Other family members don't matter, but you and DH need to both like the name. I would keep the discussion between the two of you until you've decided. Then present a united front to family members - challenge people who criticise and back each other up.

Wineandpopcorn · 19/01/2016 16:44

My husband wants to change it to Scarlett

I did love the name, but various family members have really put me off by being rude about it, and my husband also doesn't lover it, ggrrrrr! !!

Hi I changed my DD name from Louisa to Louise about 5 years ago. Only a slight change but so glad i did!
The process was easy. I rang the registry office and they booked an appointment. I filled out a form and that was it!
Her name at the top will be Willow but in section 17 (I think it says changed or other names cant remember) it will be whatever you change it to.
Simple process, just do it before they are 12 months!
Had no problem in regards to passports etc etc she is down on the system now as Louise NOT Louisa. The only give away is the top of her birth certificate.

Good luck.

Burgatroyd · 19/01/2016 14:44

I changed dd's name. Felt emotional about it at first and now its no big deal! No one remembers.

You have a year. Original name will always remain on cert with new name at the bottom.

My only advice is not to rush it. Take the year if you need to to make sure as you can only change it the once

ghnocci · 19/01/2016 13:57

I think Willow is lovely but a friend recently changed their DD's name at a similar age, so you won't be the first!
