What would a shortening/nn for Elliott be?

Elliott is a contender for dc3. One of the things holding us back is the only shortening seems to be Elli which is a bit... Girly! Am I missing something? I don't need a nn but names do tend to be shortened.

I would choose Elliot if you love the name.

Even if he gets called Ell or Ellie, it will be him that people think of! But why would Elliot have to get shortened?

My nephew is shortened to Lotty or Lolo by his family but that is maybe a bit feminine...

One of my DD's has a name you can't shorten, didn't stop the little sods kids at school giving her a nickname based on her surname! I wouldn't worry about it OP as we can't control everything in our kids lives.

Thanks all. Think the general consensus is that Elliott tends to remain as Elliott which is good. Leo would be a cool nn if I didn't already have a Leo!

"Tend to" is the operative phrase here ...... Means "sometimes".
Names "tend to be shortened" when's there's something to shorten them to.

Nicknames should IMHO be terms of endearment which evolve naturally once you know someone. I love when people use a NN which refers to something specific to their relationship, meaning it's come about because of something said or done.

Choose Elliot because you love it. Don't worry about what else some of us may sometime call him.

I know one who gets called Ells, all the others I have known have always been called just Elliott.

My friend elliot is called ellie at home by his parents and siblings but just elliot by his mates. I think know it's a lovely name - classy.

I've heard of an Elliott who goes by Leo. Not an obvious nickname but it works, I think.

I know one who is shortened to Elli, it doesn't sound in the least bit feminine when attributed to a 6ft rugby player! Don't overthink, you can always call him Elliot and let him and his friends sort out the nickname.

Elliot is gorgeous but I'd never short list it as I wouldn't like him to end up with the nn El or Ellie both beautiful as girls names but quite effeminate for a boy.

My ds calls his best friend El, otherwise he's just known as Elliott. I have heard an Eli too.

Eli is the only shortening I can think of (pronounced as in Elijah) but I suspect he'll just get called Elliott.

Fall the Elliot's I know are teenagers or in their early 20s and are called Elliot.
