Alternatives to Rex

So, I have an issue! We have a while to go, but Dsis has just had a Rex and that was the only boys name we'd agreed on and now it's completely out. Luckily we hadn't discussed names (agreed not too just in case of this scenario), but I'm now in a bit of a panic.

Current alternatives are:
Arlo (my second favourite, DH hates)
Leo (DH's favourite, I like, but sounds stupid with our surname)
Theo (I like, DH thinks it's too posh)

Can you lovely ladies please suggest something that we might be able to agree on, please?

I had Rex on the list for dc2. We went with Leo for ds2 but still think Rex would have suited him perfectly. About to have dc3 in a couple of weeks. Rex is back on the list (though I worry about it sounding pretentious) along with Gus (Fergus) Elliott Ewan and Jude.

Yeah Fergus is up there with Henry in my posh name list, and it's a lot shorter than your DH's!

I quite like Fergus, but think I prefer Ferdy/Ferdinand but sigh DH doesn't

I don't hate all the classic names, I just find them a bit boring and we have a lot of them in the family already: Alex, Tom, Daniel, Ben, Jack, David etc. I do like James, but just think I'd prefer something a bit different. My name was fairly unusual when I was young (although is fairly popular now) and I loved being the only one in the class and school.

We both prefer Leo to Leon because I had a FWB called Leon and he's still around

Do you hate ALL the classic names? What about James? It's one of the few classic names that I like, for some reason. The classic names are less likely to have strong class connotations, I think, because of their popularity across the board.

Hmmm sounds like your DH is vetoing too many names. I can understand not wanting anything horrendously posh, but it sounds like his posh-dar is too sensitive! If you're middle class you might as well own it.

We both like Max, but there's already one in the close family. We can't use Lawrence either, but I'm not actually that keen anyway.

I like Dexter, DH thinks it's indicative of a certain social class (which we may belong too anyway), so that's out.

I like Finn so will suggest that and will have a think about Louis.

Thanks for the suggestions so far, not sure if we've got 'the one' yet.

We used Rex for the cat as we got them years before kids and I felt if we "saved" it, we would jinx ourselves.

I was sad when I found out dc2 was a boy as I couldnt then use it. DS has Leo as his middle name but we chose Travis as his first name.

Also.on the list was Lawrence but DH didnt really like this.
