Alternatives to Rex

So, I have an issue! We have a while to go, but Dsis has just had a Rex and that was the only boys name we'd agreed on and now it's completely out. Luckily we hadn't discussed names (agreed not too just in case of this scenario), but I'm now in a bit of a panic.

Current alternatives are:
Arlo (my second favourite, DH hates)
Leo (DH's favourite, I like, but sounds stupid with our surname)
Theo (I like, DH thinks it's too posh)

Can you lovely ladies please suggest something that we might be able to agree on, please?

Our eldest is Rex, for number 2 we considered (well I did, DH just vetoed):

Magnus
Otto
Wilfred
Xavier
Casper
Everett

In fact you could shorten Everett to Rhett!

Theo is crazily popular at the moment(along with Toby and Teddy!), which may mean it will lose its "posh" association as everyone seems to be using it.

I prefer Leo - quite a few, but a lovely, soft-sounding name!

Leon is edgier and less popular

Louis is great, and not many around

Other suggestions which seem to be neither old man names nor classic names:

It was mentioned on the last page, but I know someone with Dax as a middle and I've always kind of loved it since hearing it.

What about Milo, Hugo, Levi, Tate, Zane, Ace, Jax, Asa, Enzo, Nate?

Also, I like Dexter as pp have suggested and I know a little boy with the name. It often gets shortened to Dex.

Op you have nearly exactly the same list as us. I love Rex too. Have you and your DH considered any of these names;

I love Rex! I'd be gutted if that happened to me. Maybe ask your sister for her shortlist since you have similar taste.

jezza Why do you care what others think of your name choice? There are three dogs on the road I live on that have the same name as my ds.. I couldn't care less..

I have a Raekwon. We call him Rae 99% of the time. Suits him, nice and classic. Easy to pronounce. Love it. Most people think it is Ray but I'm not precious about how other people spell it. There are no more Rae/ Ray in his 120 intake at school and we have only ever met one other.

I feel bad for the kids in his class who have to be known by their surname. There are 2 "Ella", 2 "Isabella", 1 "Isabelle and 2 Bella and 2 "Sophia" 2 "Oscar" Just in his class. Makes me glad to have picked a less common name.

Love a lot of names mentioned here but would always go for the least common you both agree on (if you can agree on any!)

OP a lot of your boys and girls names are on our list / we have used so here are some more I think haven't yet been mentioned:

Rock (bit pretentious maybe)

Raf by itself
Ingo
Dax (we ruled out as someone said it sounded like dachshund)
Wilf
Caspar
Louie
Lenny

For a girl we also liked Coralie and Aurelie.

Why does Leo not go with your surname?

Lucy if you actually read the thread, yes I do have a Rex, so don't take kindly to nasty, petty comments like yours on his wonderful name when the OP wasn't even for opinions on the name, she loves it!!

Someone from The Only Way is Essex just called their son Arlo. Not sure what that says about its middle-class capital...

OK jezza I assume you must have a Rex.. Yes I must be small minded and clearly not individual at all! Maybe if I'd called my ds Rex I could have joined the cool gang?

Pmsl laughing that you thought that people were calling their dogs Rex because of Andrex toilet tissue.

Also Rafferty has always been a surname and now seems to be gaining popularity as a first name

I did half regret not calling ds2 Rex. We went for Leo but he's such a cool dude he could have pulled off Rex easy and really suited it (no he doesn't look like a dog!!).

What name are you swaying to at the minute? There have been some great suggestions on here. I think I might make a list of them myself!

The more I read on this thread the more keen I am on Rex. And it's possibly the only name dh and I agree on.
