Hendrix - cool or am I hormonal?

My partner and I have been batting names back and forth for aaaages and tonight have come up with Hendrix for a boy. Rex for short and T-Rex just to be super cool.

Thoughts?

One of my friends has a Hendrix and is know as Hendy by his family (he is super cute though) not sure what his friends call him

I like Hendrix, and Rex (for a child) but not T. rex!

He could also use Henry as an adult if he wanted. I would go for it.

Some ideas:

use Hendrix as a mn and find another first name, maybe Max or Huxley (or Phoenix?)
use Rex as a mn with a first name starting with T to give nn T-Rex
use Rex as first name and choose mn starting with T to give nn Rex-T / T-Rex

Personally, I really like Rex.

I prefer Hendrick. I'm in South Africa and it's quite popular here. Many are nn'd Hennie though which doesn't appeal to me.

It's not to my taste. I think, perhaps, because it pigeonholes the child really early. I can't imagine a Hendrix who works as an accountant, has a sensible haircut and drives a Ford Focus.

Sometimes - Huxley is good!

It's not meant to be 'try hard'. Although if you knew how many bloomin names we'd been through i'd agree we are trying hard to come up with something now! ConfusedSmile

Starkers - thanks for the comments re dogs! I totally agree!

All our other names are just a bit boring. Hoping once little babe arrives a name we've already spoken about will just fit! We've still got 6 weeks to come up with some good ones Smile

I like it but wouldn't use. I love x names too, love felix and Alex. If mines a boy he will be Alex. My nephew is max short for Maximus.

Another vote here for going with Rex on its own.

Rex is still individual, quirky enough for your tastes but is a name that dates back decades, strong, fun and cool- but not TOO out there!

Ignore stupid dog name comments, just so beyond pointless, time to move on for people who think like this imo.

I knew a hendrick and a Hendrix.

One was our vet for a while!

I also know a Lennon, Dylan, Thomas, Harrison...

Quite a few music/literary surnames.

I like it. He won't be Hendrix-b in his class!

And Rex is coooooool.

Once he gets to school you will have no control over any NN, and as you live in Scotland I'd say Hen as a NN was a certainty (and very uncool!).

What about Magnus (NN Gus perhaps?)

We have two German Shepherd dogs - their names are Hendrix and Bellamy (after two great guitarists), so although I think the name is cool it reminds me of a dog!

Why not Rex on its own? It's a lovely name and super cool.

I agree with days he'll get called "Hendy" rather than "Rex".

Remember you don't choose the nickname, his teenage peers choose it.

If you don't like Hendy go for something else.
