Would it be wrong to name my son Albus? I can't decide if it is too odd to name a child after an mad elderly fictional wizard. I liked the Harry Potter books and just like the sound of the name. We would probably call him Albie for short. What do you think?

Love HP, but Albus is very Dumbledore. However, your child may actually like this, growing up - it may be seen as very cool to be named after a wizard.

HP aside, I like Albus as a name and Albie as a nn. Most people will assume his name is Albert.

Another suggestion is Aldous?

Imagine if Albus had a huge boil that grew and spread all around his middle and protruded grotesquely from his belly button.

You could sing Al-bus is bul-bous.

People really need to think about the possible ramifications their chosen name may have on the child in life. Won't somebody think of the children?!

Now I loved Harry Potter, but it's a bit too fangirl to call your baby Albus in my opinion. Not only that, but I think it's a really unattractive name. It looks ugly written down. Fine for an amazing fictional wizard, but not great for a baby/child/teen/grown man.

My first thought was: cute! A baby called Albus.

It's a good adult name too and Albie is a great nickname too.

Roobix or Wendy is too Peter Pan or Fiona is too Ossian or Lorna too Doone.

Actually if you have a DD then Fiona has the same meaning as Albus!

Nobody ever says Atticus is too Finch or that Alice is too Wonderland. You're allowed to name kids after modern books as well as "classics"

Actually Albus is an old Roman name, derived from Albinus and means light, white.

I've known two Albies in RL and both were short for Albert (one is around 70 now, the other KS1)

Albus just wasn't around before HP, and yes it will scream Dumbledore. Only you can decide if that's liveable with for your DS.
