Using a famous persons name

Would you give your child a first/middle name combination that is the same first/last name of a famous who has only recently become well known and isn't likely to be known within a few years? Think along the lines of David Cameron as first/middle name. Not David Cameron though. The middle name is a family name. Both names are well known names so it's nothing unusual that people will think we used the name because of this famous person.

I've never even heard of James Arthur and it seems like a lovely name
I think as long as your surname isn't Baxter or something then Sophie Elise is fine and very pretty (Sophia Elise if you want to make it less similar?)

NaughtToThreeSadOnions · 08/01/2016 11:16

Surely james Arthur was years ago?! I doubt he's even famous anymore!

Horseshoe1 · 08/01/2016 11:14

Never heard of him, and I usually watch X factor now and then! Go for it x

ToastyFingers · 07/01/2016 22:22

Haha, I'd forgotten about James Arthur until now.

I went to school with a gent called Steve McQueen and no-one took the mick.

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 07/01/2016 22:16

I'd never heard of him in the first place tbh.

Sophronia · 07/01/2016 22:08

James Arthur is lovely and like pp said people will forget about the singer in a few years time

ceeveebee · 07/01/2016 20:54

No one will remember James Arthur's name in 2 years time.
My son has a family middle name (Stanley) but I'd be very surprised if any of his friends even know his middle name.

EmpressOfTheVulvaCupcakes · 07/01/2016 18:44

James Arthur Surname? I'd have thought you'd be fine, especially since he'll just be James Surname mostly.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 07/01/2016 18:41

I met a child at camp who had the same first name and very similar surname to a singer who was very big in the late 90s early 00s. I doubt it meant much to her or her peers though.

FairyFluffbum · 07/01/2016 17:59

I would if it was a celebrity people would forget but not a prolific one

For example our surname actually is smith. So despite liking the name William we couldn't have a will smith. Same with Maggie.

FarterChristmoose · 07/01/2016 17:59

Yes, it's James Arthur. I also like Sophie Elise but is that too close to Sophie Ellis Bexter?

As long as its not Che Chesterman or Reggie N Bollie I think you are good.

SandrasAnnoyingFriend · 07/01/2016 15:23

Fleur East? If so then go ahead, nobody will have a clue who she is in 5 years.

ceeveebee · 07/01/2016 15:21

If it's James Arthur then I think that's fine

If it's Wagner whatshisname then probably not!

FarterChristmoose · 07/01/2016 15:14

Recent X-Factor winner/runner up/ (don't watch it, no idea if they won or not)

Is it Kim Kardashian Smith?

Or Beyonce Knowles Jones?

Or Jeremy Corbyn Bloggs?

How is the person famous?

I mean...film star, politician or serial killer?

'Cos Fred West Davies is prob not a great idea...
