Just musing but which one do you prefer.

Persephone
ophelia
Titania
Andromeda

Awful names. Please do not inflict any of these on the poor child. May I ask where you are from?

planter · 04/01/2016 19:31

OP is being a GF.

AmysTiara · 04/01/2016 19:31

They all sound ugly and harsh to me. Don't know why tbh but just not to my taste

redhat · 04/01/2016 19:28

Tatiana would be a kinder alternative to Titania aka Titty (accompanied by teenage boy sniggering)

Borninthe60s · 04/01/2016 19:25

Persephone - awful have you got your purse/phone

ophelia - awful I'll feel ya

Titania - awful titanium

Andromed - awful

thehomesecretary · 04/01/2016 19:21

I have a Persephone nn Sephy and we have not had any of the issues mentioned above. No Percy-phone, no teasing. We love it!
Love Ophelia too- it was on our list!

NewLife4Me · 04/01/2016 19:12

I think they are all as bad as each other and wouldn't choose any.
It depends on what sort of school they'll attend and what class you are.
Maybe names like this are good if you are mc, upper class and attend private schools.
I always ask myself what nn their friends will use and if the name is in keeping with their environment.

maybebabybee · 04/01/2016 19:07

God lord, no!!!

What is it with this site and insanely poncey named?!

kaymondo · 04/01/2016 19:03

I love Persephone but don't think DH would let me get away with it. Also, most of you seem to be suggesting the nickname sephy which wouldn't work for us as we have DS Seth! Just pondering now, do some people not use Posy as a shortening of Persephone?

FairyFluffbum · 04/01/2016 19:01

I liked Ophelia...

Till dh said I'd Ophelia your bush

Didn't like it so much after that

Cinnamon2013 · 04/01/2016 18:42

Sorry don't mean to be an arse. I just feel quite strongly about that name being odd

Cinnamon2013 · 04/01/2016 18:40

In response to the above... I know newborns grow up. I just meant giving a baby/girl a name associated with madness and death by drowning. It doesn't really suggest hope for a happy life.

Muskey · 04/01/2016 18:40

I like opheila but I wouldn't use any of the names they come across as pretentious

Thetruthfairy · 04/01/2016 18:35

Persephone is gorgeous, so is Ophelia
She will be in a class with Luna, Coco, Theadore and a range of other wonderful names. She will not be out of place at all. I am a teacher and the kids I teach do not tease other children because of their names. They just accept and get on xxx

Tummyrumbled · 04/01/2016 18:22

I like the three names apart from Titania.

May I suggest:

Athena
Rhea
Cassiopeia
Jocasta

Fannyfannakerpants · 04/01/2016 18:10

I love all of them but all but wouldn't go for Titania. Ophelia and Persephone were on my top 10 list as was Phaedra and Luna (I know they're not shakespearean but similar style) in the end I wasn't brave enough and I really regret it. Go for a name you love. You'll never please everyone so you might as well please yourself.

RiverTam · 04/01/2016 17:58

I have to say I'm astonished at how many people don't know, or think most people don't know, how to pronounce Persephone. Isn't it one of the best-known Greek myths? But anyway, no different to Siobhan, for example, in that regard.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 04/01/2016 17:58

Yes boo ones I am also considering using

OP posts:
Hulababy · 04/01/2016 17:57

I like Persephone, with Seffy as nn.

I've heard Percy and Penny used a nn too though I'm less keen on them.

It's one of Dd's favourite names - she claims she wants twins called Hermione and Persephone when she is older.

NeedsAsockamnesty · 04/01/2016 17:57

Kat I already have 2 of the names you have on your likes

OP posts:
krazipan · 04/01/2016 17:54

Persephone! It's a beautiful name

DrewsWife · 04/01/2016 17:52

I know a beautiful Persephone. She is lovely and her mum is not at all upper class. Very down to earth and amazing...

HelenaJustina · 04/01/2016 17:49

If you like Titania, how about Tatiana instead?
Josephine instead of Persephone...

vichill · 04/01/2016 17:42

Ophelia is the best. You would have to be proper upper class to carry off this list though. Like extra digit fox murdering kind of posh and not Carole Middleton.

SirChenjin · 04/01/2016 17:37

Ophelia first, then Persephone (although it's a lifetime of correcting pronunciation..).

The other 2 are just plain awful. There is a very good reason why certain names are not used more frequently...
