Just musing but which one do you prefer.

Ok, probably outing myself totally but Persephone was my first choice if DS had been a girl - Percy for short. It's my favourite Greek myth and I actually interpret the story as her bringing spring to the earth. Ophelia would have been my third choice. Given that we clearly share the same pretentious and awful taste, I present you with my son's name, Cosmo. My Italian husband chose it for family/cultural reasons - FIL is Cosimo and SIL is a doctor (Cosmo is the patron saint of physicians) but I'd imagine people not knowing that assume we chose it to be pretentious.

If DP and I have another DC and its a boy Dante is on our short list Smile
I don't think anyone really thinks of the grim associations all that much tbh
I'm gonna vote again for Persephone because I love it but DP would never ever ever let me

I know a Dante, it's a bloody great name - he's dark haired and dark eyed and it totally suits him.

The thing is, only the saddest of bastards would look at a tiny baby, hear a name and then think of the Shakespeare character/Greek mythological goddess and whatever demise they met. Honestly, who really doesn't that?

Horrible associations wouldn't worry me because the vast majority of people wouldn't be aware of them anyway. I like Ophelia but she would probably end up being called Fi. Nothing wrong with that IMHO.
I quite like Persephone too but there isn't an obvious nn for a girl.

I have a friend who chose what a first seemed a dreadful name for her dd (and it wasn't just me who thought so) but as time has gone on and as I've got used to it I've begun to like it a lot. The girl, who is not so little now, is lovely and I couldn't imagine her being called anything else. None of her friends bat an eyelid - it's her name and that's it.

Not sure about Dante for a boy - it's the sound of it that doesn't appeal to me. Fergus would be my favourite. I know a Rupert and he's not very nice, so that has put me off

Ophelia goes mad and then drowns herself in Hamlet. At some stage the odds are that her GCSE group will be doing Hamlet.

Persephone is a nice name but I would not call my daughter something commonly associated with "The Rape Of ..." (see also Lucretia).

Andromeda is chained to a rock and sacrificed to Poseidon.

Titania is the best of a bad bunch but still ended up being magically tricked into loving a donkey. And she would need to be nn Annie or Nancy before she stepped foot in a school.

I don't understand why anybody would choose names with such horrible (and for some misogynist) associations.

Persephone is my favourite and Andromeda my least favourite. I've always had a thing about Antigone (nn Tiggy) too. But that's not on your list.

It's like penny-loap for Penelope, which is what I thought it was for ages, even though Penelope was my sister's middle name.

I just asked DH (Greek) and apparently it's per-seph-OH-ne. But English seems to pronounce most greek words wrong. I thought per-SEPH-oh-me too. Don't even see this Percy phone business?

I've had it with all of mine mistress but after a perticularly nasty bout of it on my last attempt that resulted in TOP due to severity I'm not taking any chances, ever since then I have had a care plan waiting to be activated on first hint of exorcist style puke (already activated) on the off chance,it involves lots of injections in my arse and steroids

Oh good luck with this pregnancy Sock.

I had HG with DS1, and would not wish it upon my worst enemy.

When I got pregnant with DS2 I was convinced I would get it again but thankfully I barely even had morning sickness so have hope!

I did stock up on ginger biscuits the second time round though, not because they work but to throw at anyone who suggested I try them.

ifnotnow indeed I am, but shusss it's a secret. feeling incredibly positive about it as I now have a Doc with a huge amount of experance with HG so hopefully I will not be attempting to vomit my own esophagus this time round.

mistress I liberated it from my grandmothers garden shed where the chickens had taken up residence. I quite like it, hugely ugly thing but sturdy
