My DS is named Caspar, he is 3 and I haven't had one person mention the friendly ghost connotation. He was due on Christmas Day ( was actually born 30th of Nov ) but I wanted a Christmassy name for him and Kaspar was the name of one of the three wise kings ( different spelling obviously ).

It's still quite unusual and i really think it suits him, also shortening to 'Cas' sometimes is quite nice and I think will be quite cool when he is a teen. Good all-rounder i would say :-)

If I had a boy tomorrow I might name him kasper. I taught one a couple of years ago. He was polish, lovely and no one on the class had even heard of the ghost. Go for it

I know a kasper in his early 30's. Awesome name and suits him really well. :)

Yay to Caspar! Great name. Considered it for DS. I know one who's in his 40's, he's very distinguished. I think it's a name that would suit any age. And I would never think of the friendly ghost...

I'm an 'older parent' and I have one of these just out of his teens. We got the friendly ghost stuff when he was first born because the bloody film came out a couple of weeks later, but not really since then. I think he likes his name. He makes skate and rap videos and uses several variations on the name as kind of trademarks. He doesn't like it when we call him Cassypoos

Caspar is a ghost but the name itself is ok.

What about caspian or cassius.

I think the friendly ghost thing is so dated now that only older parents would have that association.

It could be delightful for a baby, or a toddler.

or a Balding adult?

My friend has a Caspar. None of his friends have ever mentioned the friendly ghost. He's 6. And so what if they did? It's no different to any other film or cartoon character. Matilda, Milo, Leo, Ben, Holly, Dorothy, Jamie, Simon. All dc in my dd's school. All well known characters in their own right. That's the thing with names. They name people. Sometimes those people are famous. I perhaps would avoid Adolf or Madonna for example but a benign and well liked ghost? Not a problem.

CaspEr is the "friendly ghost", CaspAr was one of the three kings/wise men from the Christmas story so a lovely name IMHO. My friend's DS is called Caspar and tbh I don't think he'll get much 'friendly ghost' teasing as most children haven't even heard of that film! (In my experience!) It's just the adults making those connotations.

I prefer the Casper spelling and know a little toddler Casper - who is adorable! No one other than a woman neighbour in her 40s has ever mentioned the ghost connection apparently and none of my mutual friends with casper's family have ever said anything other than what a cool name it is. Go for it!

I get random texts from someone asking if Caspar would like to come for a play date.

My reply was 'I do not have a child named Caspar.'

It's awful, in my opinion.

Caspar, Casper, Kaspar and Kasper are popular names locally. Most get 'friendly ghost' teasing.

Hmm this is cautiously encouraging...!

DH says that the child would be teased with friendly ghost type insults - does anyone else agree??
