Names you can't use

tuilamum · 28/12/2015 10:18

This is a thread for names that you love but can't use for various reasons eg OH doesn't like it, someone has ruined it, another family member/friend has named their baby it, ran out of children...
That way we can appreciate some beautiful names and maybe offer some inspiration to expectant parents-to-be so that these names may find a good home Grin
I will go first...
Girls: Aria, Theia, Thalia, Maia
Boys: Logan, Aidan
Uni: Blake, Harper, Harley, Sam

I feel your pain with that one. If we ever had another girl I'd want to call her Imogen. According to DH, this is a boys name...

winniemcgoogan · 17/07/2016 12:50

Names I love but can't use are names such as kagami and ayane. I seem to love foreign names that are either japanese or Indian but people say western people can't use eastern names but it's perfectly fine for Eastern people to use western names. I could never understand that logic. Sad any way I wouldn't. Use them as I decided to name my girl after my gran.

WanderingNotLost · 30/06/2016 20:21

Ophelia. Because with our surname we'd be consigning her to a lifetime of 'feel ya tits' jokes.

Elizabeth09 · 30/06/2016 01:11

Can't use because they don't go with surname:

  • Any name starting with L
  • Flynn / Finn
  • Bella / Stella
  • Emilia
  • Mia
  • Frida
  • Ivy
  • Sarah
  • Riley

Can't use because they're taken by family/friends:

  • Charlotte / Charlie
  • Olive (we have an Olivia in the family already)
  • Kate
  • Genevieve (have a Jen in the family already)
  • Rose / any variation of Rose
  • Matthew
  • Benjamin
  • Jack
  • Maxwell (have a Max in the family already)
  • Ava (best friend is naming her baby due in Sept this)
Error404usernamenotfound · 06/01/2016 14:20

Girl:
Juniper - not brave enough
Charlotte - vetoed by DH
Emmeline - rhymes with our surname
Estelle - vetoed by DH
Cecily - vetoed by DH

Boy:
Alexander - vetoed by DH

Hoping to have one more DC, so may have to work on DH's name tastes...

smartyclogs · 06/01/2016 14:09

Lark, for a girl - I just wasn't brave enough.

Essexgirlupnorth · 05/01/2016 23:47

Anything beginning with A as both hubby and mine first names start with A so would be too Kardashian Alistair was the only boys name I liked luckily we had a girl.
Robert as our surname is Roberts
George, Andrew, Benjamin, Seren and Arwen as pets in our family.

OhPuddleducks · 05/01/2016 23:26

Claudia (apparently we aren't posh enough), Ava (didn't go with surname), Fergus (didn't go with bloody surname), Rory (for second child but eldest can't pronounce "r's" that well and we didn't think we could do it to her!), Liam (DP hates it).... Many many more. Saddest about Claudia. I AM posh enough dammit!

ktt512 · 05/01/2016 23:23

Jacob - I have a brother called Jacob but my OH adores the name, to the point that he maintains he's going to call any DS we may have in the future 'Jacob' regardless of what his actual name is Hmm pretty sure he's joking though!

For a girl I loved Ottilie, but OH can't stop thinking about otters whenever I say it...ridiculous excuse to veto a name if you ask me!! ;)

flohen · 05/01/2016 08:37

Rosalie - too many Roses in the family
Emily - niece is called Amelie
Edward - sad but dmil had a sibling with this name who died in infancy

Kpo58 · 04/01/2016 21:00

Any name that starts CLA such as Clarissa, Claire, Clara
The sound just makes my skin crawl.

I will also always veto Junior. Its so career limiting. You can't imagine a CEO of a major corporation called Junior. I would veto Buddy for the same reason.

Quodlibet · 04/01/2016 20:55

DP's surname rules out loads of names - it's 3 syllables ending in 'y' and lots of names would end up a bit Utterly Butterly.
Bonnie
Verity
Leonie

Busybee1234 · 04/01/2016 20:52

StarkyTheDirewolf, I had a good laugh about 'Cor! A lion!" "No! A lion!" "My! A lion!" Haha! Sorry, probably not that funny for you... :)

PrincessPunzie · 04/01/2016 19:33

Celeste. I really love it but I can't get away from the fact it's a contraceptive pill.

catsofa · 04/01/2016 01:53

Hazel. I love it, but had a boy.

StarkyTheDirewolf · 04/01/2016 01:13

Our last name is an animal, so anything ending with an A is basically out, which I think is a shame, but it doesn't work. Imagine our surname is 'Lion' it's not, but that would be cool

Cora Lion, becomes "Cor! A Lion!" Same for Noah, Luca, Mya etc.

I have Osian on my list but Dh has a dn with the name, so apparently that's out!

Busybee1234 · 03/01/2016 15:47

Angus & Beatrice - they rhyme with our surname
Ottillie & Genevieve - they sound too elaborate and long with our elaborate, long, difficult to spell and pronounce surname
Eleanor - some people mispronounce my current DD's name as Elena
Stella/Estella - DH can't get over the fact that it makes him think of beer
Isabella - love this name but dislike very popular names so can't use it
Clara - a close friend named her DD this
Tess - DH does not like it
Noa - Noah is very popular and I know people will assume I gave my DD a boy's name until they see it written down and I'm not cool enough to get away with a boy name for a girl :)
