Weird or Pretty?

Really contemplating 'Silver' for DC3, not sure of spelling - Silver, Sylva or Silva?

Is it pretty and unusual or just weird and therefore setting DD up for lifetime of teasing/judgement?

I really like it. It appeals to my hippie side. But I have a child named Rainbow (in welsh) so I would. Go for it!

MissAlabamaWhitman · 26/12/2015 21:42

And yes Mercury is ridiculous.

Mercutio on the other hand is all kinds of fabulous.

MissAlabamaWhitman · 26/12/2015 21:40

If you name her silver and it results in piss taking she can always call herself sylvie/silvie which is ubiquitously gorgeous.

Go on, name her silver, take a risk if you love it.

It's always going to be preferable to Amelia, Mia, Ava et al 😉

BeaufortBelle · 26/12/2015 20:17

mercury would be a fab name. Eek no - up and down like a mercurial personality has a resonance with illnesses like bi-polar !

originalmavis · 26/12/2015 18:49

There's no surname that would work with. Maybe Bojangles.

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:39

Mercury would be a fab name!

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:38

How did I type that wrong again?? Sylvia!

BeaufortBelle · 26/12/2015 18:34

If you are going to use it, spell it properly. I suppose it's better than copper, platinum or mercury Smile

BatmanLovesBaubles · 26/12/2015 18:29

Thought weird at first, but it's grown on me. I quite like it, although I wouldn't be brave enough to name a child of my own it. Stick with original spelling.

wineandcheeseplease · 26/12/2015 18:16

Very weird

xmasseason · 26/12/2015 18:14

Syliva not Syliva!

LastAnni · 26/12/2015 17:46

Friend of mine has a baby Silver. I think it's lovely. Also like it spelt Sylva.

YeOldeTrout · 26/12/2015 17:14

Pretty.

DecaffCoffeeAndRollupsPlease · 26/12/2015 17:04

I like it, and think pretty not weird.

WishesForSunshine · 26/12/2015 16:55

Thanks everyone.
Mixed opinions but some who do like which is reassuring :)
Swaying towards the regular Silver spelling.

I like Silver. I wouldn't spell it Sylva or Silva because I think people would mis-read it as Syliva (which I also like).

HippyPottyMouth · 26/12/2015 13:12

I used to know a Silva. I love it.

BikeRunSki · 26/12/2015 13:03

Silva is the name of a company that makes compasses and other outdoor survival equipment. They are market leaders and well known in outdoorsy/military circles.

Strokethefurrywall · 26/12/2015 12:43

I know an adult Silva - shes of Armenian descent. It's really pretty and she's not had a lifetime of piss taking either...

HackerFucker22 · 26/12/2015 12:28

Not a fan, but if you use it spell it properly.

We have Spanish relatives through marriage and Da Silva is their family name.

CandlesAreBurning · 26/12/2015 10:13

Just use it, at spelt silver or Silva. Welsh has plenty of names for colours, and if you're a welsh speaker, you are just calling the child a colour, so it's all good

originalmavis · 26/12/2015 10:13

Hi ho...

WeThreeMythicalKings · 26/12/2015 10:10

Weird

Oysterbabe · 26/12/2015 09:59

I think it's weird rather than pretty.
Agree with others, if you do it spell it correctly.
