I'm due next Monday and can't decide on girls names. I like Genevieve but what would nickname be? Gen, Ginny or Viv????

Other front runners are:
Beatrix
Annabel
Imogen
Olivia

I get more undecided by the day....

Thanks all Smile xx

King Arthur's one is Guinevere.
Genevieve is the only unusual name on your list, if that matters. And the best, IMO.

CakeRattleandRoll · 26/12/2015 14:53

Love Genevieve. Definitely my favourite from your list.

eastwest · 25/12/2015 18:06

The Genevieve I know goes by Jen/ Gen. I love it. Also have always loved Imogen.

Queazy · 25/12/2015 18:04

Thanks all Smile I was thinking the English pronunciation, mainly because I honestly think most people won't get the French one 'right' (tho I respect it is!!). Plus, I love Gen or Genny. I was thinking Ginny as a nickname though. I know the nickname will be whatever her friends decide, but conscious my 2yo won't be able to pronounce either version so will need something easier to work with!!

Beatrix is still a front runner for me too though - I think it's just lovely

I love this name, beautiful in its own right, whatever age you are, and short forms of Gen,, Genny and Eve. Absolutely lovely.

Drquin · 24/12/2015 23:47

I love it, especially pronounced "the French way".

I may be in the minority here, but I don't get the fascination of working out the nickname in advance. Maybe that's because my name is never shortened (except by small kids who can't pronounce it properly yet!). A nickname or diminutive is something I prefer to evolve in time.
Choose a name you like (love) ..... Don't try to predict the future.

(I still chuckle at the grown-up Alexandra I know ..... Who isn't an Alex or Ali, or even Lexi .... But Boo!)

MadameJosephine · 24/12/2015 23:24

I love it but we couldn't agree on pronunciation so named DD Jennifer instead nn Jenny. Her big brother never forgave me and calls her genevieve anyway (zhen-vee-ev) so it has become his special name for his little sister which is quite sweet

xmasseason · 24/12/2015 22:54

I like Annabel, Olivia and Imogen.

Crazybaglady · 24/12/2015 20:37

I like the zhen-vee-ev way ! Would NN her Vivi

Montsti · 24/12/2015 20:23

I know a few - all called Gen which I dislike...Vivi/Vivvy is sweet though...

Not my favourote tbh as I always think it should be pronounced the "French way" and doesn't sound right pronouncing the English way which I'm assuming you will..

I like all your other names particularly Annabel😊.

mammmamia · 24/12/2015 16:16

Love it. I know two - one in her 20s who is Gen. The other is 9 and known as Evie.
It's top of my list if I ever have another daughter.

NotMeNotYouNotAnyone · 24/12/2015 16:09

I know a 7 year old Genevieve who is known as Gen. Lovely name

Sophronia · 24/12/2015 14:11

Genevieve nn Vivi or Genny.

scribblegirl · 24/12/2015 12:44

Adore it. Would be on my list if my sister didn't have one of the names listed as v similar above!

cecilelliott · 24/12/2015 12:42

Lovely name. We know one 5 year old who's known as Gigi

ditavonteesed · 24/12/2015 10:56

also now wondering if IamsorryIasked is refering to my dd.

ditavonteesed · 24/12/2015 10:55

My Genevieve is known as Genie, it did take her several years to learn to write her own name though.

y0rkier0se · 24/12/2015 10:54

Love love love Genevieve and I think Ginny is the cutest nickname!

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/12/2015 10:51

The teenage Genevieve I know is generally called Gee.

They are all nice names you have there.

Lizziedripping1 · 24/12/2015 10:43

My mums French friend is called Genevieve over there she pronounces it Gen-ev-eaeve

nn is Gigi

I think it's a lovely name

TwoAndTwoEqualsChaos · 24/12/2015 08:12

I love it but DH was put off because of the 1950's film ... I also like "Genevra", a version of the same name. I think it is a little more common on the Continent.

imsorryiasked · 24/12/2015 08:10

There is one Genevieve in DS class who is always known as Gennie. I guess most people assume she is called Jenny / Jennifer.

Raines100 · 24/12/2015 08:06

This is our choice for our (imaginary) DD2. She would be Genna/Jenna for short. Are you pronouncing it Jen-uh-veev or Zhun-vee-ev?

Cantwaittillboxingday · 24/12/2015 07:35

Will it be pronounced with a 'J' or a 'Zh'?

WanderingTrolley1 · 24/12/2015 07:35

Beautiful.
