Is Gabriel a popular name these days?!

I know a few between 5 and 7 years old, but I wouldn't say it's an overly popular name...ones nn. is Gabby and the 2 Gabe and the other one is just Gabriel..

Nice name😊

Stollenlover · 11/12/2015 15:06

Why don't you check out the ONS lists of all names? You can see the name's popularity year by year. Sorry, don't have the link to hand.

SevenSeconds · 11/12/2015 14:17

I know 2 - a toddler and an 11 year old. I think it's a nice name.

FarterChristmoose · 11/12/2015 14:17

Gabe not Gave but that reminds me my daughters best friends brother is Gavriel

FarterChristmoose · 11/12/2015 14:13

I have a son called Kirby Gabriel. There is a Gabriel in his class and two more in the school, one goes by Gave.

Lancelottie · 11/12/2015 13:25

Three, aged 4, 17 and 48 (small boy, big boy, adult woman in that order).

All known as Gabriel in full.

Middle one did suffer some teasing but he is also a talented dancer so it could have been that rather than the name.

disappoint15 · 11/12/2015 13:22

Off the top of my head, I can think of 5 under 18s called Gabriel that I know.

blytheandsebastian · 11/12/2015 12:55

I have a Gabriel :) He gets Gabe a lot. Or baby Gaby because he's only five months old! We hear many quips about him being no angel though!

squoosh · 11/12/2015 12:48

Gabriel Lockhart is a swoonsome name.

Is The Affair very popular? Or is it likely to disappear without trace once it finishes?

Boredofthinkingofnewnames · 11/12/2015 12:48

Two - both in reception at DDs school. I love it.

findingmyfeet12 · 11/12/2015 12:47

It's my chosen name if I ever have a boy. I absolutely love it.

Flobberty · 11/12/2015 12:47

One boy.

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/12/2015 12:47

Gabriel Lockhart is gorgeous. It sounds like a handsome heroic prince from a story book. If I'm honest though I'm not mad on the Brooke part

Muskey · 11/12/2015 12:42

I know two one is sitting next to me (dd) the other is my brother in law

Cass168 · 11/12/2015 12:40

I know two, although at home they never abbreviate. Nice name IMO

kelliebrookexoxo · 11/12/2015 12:33

I love it! We want to call our baby boy this. Our surname is Lockhart. I was a bit devastated when I starting watching the series The Affair, does anyone here watch it? Do you think that it's a problem? We have considered Gabriel Lockhart-Brooke but I think it's OTT.

^'But here in Ireland where it's a pretty common name amongst my father's generation, it's universally Gay.'

Not anymore. I know two little Irish Gabriels. One is Gabe and the other is just Gabriel.

SillyBub · 11/12/2015 12:20

My 11 year old DN is a Gabriel, known as Gabe. I work in a primary school with 750 pupils, we don't have a single Gabriel.

cece · 11/12/2015 12:18

None

Iliveinalighthousewiththeghost · 11/12/2015 12:16

My first baby that I lost has a half brother named Gabriel on her dad side. I don't know him. Only know of him.
Beautiful name. Are you considering it. I'd use it but I can't for obvious reasons. I'd say judging from the number of threads on here asking opinions on the name it is rising in popularity. I think it's number 78 in the baby names so its in the top 100.

ShatnersBassoon · 11/12/2015 12:11

I know just one, a woman in her 70s. She's a gorgeous, vivacious person, and I think her name is perfect for her.

MooseAndSquirrel · 11/12/2015 12:08

I know only know one, 40something ex boss. He was gabe for short.
I think its a lovely name didn't hurt that the one I knew was a lovely guy and a total silver fox

Annarose2014 · 11/12/2015 12:07

In the states it is. But here in Ireland where it's a pretty common name amongst my father's generation, it's universally Gay.

Still not sure it'd put me off, it's a beautiful name!

Sophronia · 11/12/2015 12:05

I thought the most common nickname for Gabriel is Gabe rather than Gay.
