Tigi/Tiger for girl

Which one is better? Or are they both awful? I have two dds already, both with old fashioned names, one which has got very popular and one that hasn't. If this baby was a boy he almost definitely would have been Tiger but I'm not sure it suits a girl or of Tigi is a rubbish feminine alternative. Any thoughts? (I have thick skin 😑 )

Tiger is a fab name. I would assume girl if I heard it. Tiggy is adorable. I started a thread once asking what I would need to call a dd to have a Tig (as in Wolly and Tig) I didn't like the long winded answers, but Tiger is brilliant I'm jealous if you use it.

I only know 1 Tegan, age about 9. And we live in a high ITV viewing Chav town, too

They lived in hippycentral. And presumably Tiger isn't going to stay in once place all her life anyway.

You wouldn't, by the way, have known that my nephews and niece were not perfectly happy with their names- it came as a surprise to most when the first one announced his intention to become Tom.

I do like Tegan, though - surely it can't be that popular, OP! (The one I know is particularly lovely, so admittedly I may be influenced by that :) )

I suspect it depends where you live, Bertrand. I know loads of teens & adults with more unusual names, and they all seem perfectly happy with them.
I do know a number of people who have changed their names, but their original names were all very 'normal' (for example, one was originally called Jane)
To be honest, I also wouldn't consider Tiger/Tyger (or Tigi) particularly unusual.

Honestly- as the aunt of children with "lovely strong unique" names,(one not s million miles from Tiger) please don't do it. As one of them once said "it's just so boring having to explain it every time. And the nicest, politest people always have to make an effort to control their smile when they hear it."
They all three changed their names before they went to secondary school to 3 simple, common names. Deliberately chose so they wouldn't be the only one in the school. Their parents were soon upset.......

If you gave a DD called Lily I don't think you can go for Tiger. Antigone is lovely though.

I love tiger though, my friend has a Tyger. friend is a kind of punk / alternative type, doesn't give a shit what people think. and the name couldn't suit her little girl more

Tiger is a great name, although I would presume someone called Tiger is male, but only because I've only know Tiger/Tyger boys and men.

It's a very strong name, but also beautiful, and much nicer than Tigi, but I like Tigi as a NN.

Antigone is famous for being the daughter of Jocasta and her son Oedipus, so I wouldn't go for that.

I like Agatha, but wasn't it Taggy in Jilly Cooper?

Anything can have a sexual link of you look hard enough. For example the very popular name Freya could be seen as the goddess of sexuality depending on your learnings and views.
As for it being a strippers name? That's just silly and could be said of any 'cutesy' girls names; Honey etc.
I like the mixed reaction the name has got, here and in RL, but nothing is helping me make a decision.

I think it would sound utterly bizarre to name your 3rd dd Tiger when your other dds have traditional names.
I quite like Tiggy as a nn for Antigone though.

Well, if you think it has no sexual connotations tell that to the Chinese who use tiger penises for male sexual dysfunction and the pp who said it is a stripper name. It might not have sexual connotations for you but it will for a lot of other people.
Sorry, I just think names like this carry a lot of baggage and expectations of the sort of person your dd will be. Why not give her a name that doesn't carry such weight and allows her to grow to be herself without all the preconceived notions?

Would you say Tigi the same as tiggy? If so you could channel your inner st jilly cooper and call her Agatha

Tiger sounds like a stripper name. Give her something more formal and then select whatever cutesy nickname fits. For her sake.

I think it's a bit of a stretch to think it could be sexualised. The only time I've heard it in a sexual/pet name kinda way is in The Archers tbh!
