I had one in my class this morning- Italy. It's not very common, not even here. It is just a diminuitive of Rosa and is pronounced RoseElla. It's very old-fashioned.

I just think about tomato sauce.. rosella is a ketchup brand here in Australia (as well as a bird)

I like it! Mostly because of the computer game "Kings Quest 4: The Perils of Rosella", which I loved when I was a kid. It was one of the few games where the main character was female.

Well I think it is pretty and wouldn't have immediately thought "skin disease".

I knew a Rosella, she was Italian and pronounced it Ro-Sella, but I'm sure that equally Rose-Ella would work (and is probably more intuitive to English speakers)

I think people are being unnecessarily mean, maybe it's not to their taste but to me it is a pretty name, that is unusual but not totally unknown. Go for it OP, don't let the naysayers dissuade you!

I used to work at the Rosella factory in Australia. It's a brand of tomato sauce.

Hmm..not really sure tbh. It sounds like a hyphenated name and said in the Central Belt twang it doesn't sound nice at all (although that's probably not an issue for you). I wouldn't be able to get past 'parrot' though Grin

For electronic records and email addresses hyphens can be a bit tricky so you could end up getting lost in a system...
