I had one in my class this morning- Italy. It's not very common, not even here. It is just a diminuitive of Rosa and is pronounced RoseElla. It's very old-fashioned.

Twunk · 05/12/2015 22:04

When i read the thread title I thought "sounds like an illness" and I see I'm not in a minority.

Blahia · 05/12/2015 22:02

Sorry, I also thought of roseola....

puthyjip43 · 05/12/2015 10:21

I just think about tomato sauce.. rosella is a ketchup brand here in Australia (as well as a bird)

YesICanHearYouClemFandango · 05/12/2015 10:13

I like it! Mostly because of the computer game "Kings Quest 4: The Perils of Rosella", which I loved when I was a kid. It was one of the few games where the main character was female.

Curiouserandcuriouser30 · 05/12/2015 10:05

Well I think it is pretty and wouldn't have immediately thought "skin disease".

I knew a Rosella, she was Italian and pronounced it Ro-Sella, but I'm sure that equally Rose-Ella would work (and is probably more intuitive to English speakers)

I think people are being unnecessarily mean, maybe it's not to their taste but to me it is a pretty name, that is unusual but not totally unknown. Go for it OP, don't let the naysayers dissuade you!

Borninthe60s · 05/12/2015 09:50

Skin disease

Smidge001 · 05/12/2015 09:48

My immediate thought was skin disease too.

SirChenjin · 05/12/2015 09:41

And you made up your mind in the space of 1.5 hours? What was it that convinced you?

SleepNeededPlease · 04/12/2015 23:06

I used to work at the Rosella factory in Australia. It's a brand of tomato sauce.

The snakes were terrifying!

KatieLouiseW · 04/12/2015 23:03

Because when I posted I hadn't decided

msgrinch · 04/12/2015 22:47

Grim skin disease comes to mind.

SirChenjin · 04/12/2015 22:44

x posts

So why on earth did you post if you've already (probably) decided? Confused

SirChenjin · 04/12/2015 22:43

Hmm..not really sure tbh. It sounds like a hyphenated name and said in the Central Belt twang it doesn't sound nice at all (although that's probably not an issue for you). I wouldn't be able to get past 'parrot' though Grin

KatieLouiseW · 04/12/2015 22:41

Well, it'll probably be her name - if it's a girl

OP posts:
NahItsOkTa · 04/12/2015 22:38

My immediate thought was 'I'm sure that's a disease'.

KatieLouiseW · 04/12/2015 22:38

Yes, a girl name Xmas Grin

I know a Rosila. Pronounced Rose-Isla. Called Isla for short.

SirChenjin · 04/12/2015 22:29

It's the name of a type of parakeet as pp have said.

When you say you came across it - do you mean as a girl's name?

CatKirk · 04/12/2015 22:27

Well, everybody's free to feel good.

KatieLouiseW · 04/12/2015 22:15

Yeah, I forgot about all them times I went to the doctor and got diagnosed with "Rosella" Hmm

OP posts:
CatKirk · 04/12/2015 22:12

Agree with pps, sounds like a disease.

MrsLeighHalfpenny · 04/12/2015 22:08

Sounds like a cross between rubella and rosacea.

triceratops1066 · 04/12/2015 22:06

For electronic records and email addresses hyphens can be a bit tricky so you could end up getting lost in a system...

KatieLouiseW · 04/12/2015 22:03

That's only in Australia Xmas Smile I just wanted something a little different!
