Please help me with the spelling of Kieran!

So, I love Noah! It's 100% being my bump's name, if it's a boy! Xmas Smile DP prefers Kieran, but is happy with it being a middle name Xmas Grin I like it, so me too - my question is, should we go with Kieran, or the original spelling - Ciaran? (We have no Irish connections) x

My son is Ciaran hated the English version of it when I had him. Ciaran still gets annoyed when people automatically go to try and spell it with a K

I have always loved 'Ciaran' personally, it's normal enough to not stick out but different enough to still be unusual

KatieLouise I'm not sure if it's most commonly pronounced like that, the Keiran I know is pronounced like Kieran but that's another possibility!

Just to add another couple of options, I know a Kieran, a Kieron and a Kieren.

I prefer it with a C. I think it's just because a lot of 'K' names make me think of the Kardashians now!

Kieran is the most usual afaik. Pronounced KEER-an.
The correct Irish spelling is actually Ciarán with a fada which lengthens the a. Pronounced KEER-awn. If I saw Ciaran written, that's how I'd pronounce it as I'd assume the fada had just been omitted, as sadly happens with lots of Irish names (like Sean, should be Seán).

Ciaran was on our list and I only really like this spelling. I wouldn't say it's that unusual where we are in Scotland, probably more popular than Kieran.

I teach a Kieran, kieron, Kieren and a kirran. All pronounced the same!

Kieran is the common spelling around here. The ones I know are 15-16yo. I didn't know it could be spelled like Ciar?n.

My friend is Keiren. I've never seen it spelt that way by anyone else but because he's the Keiren that I see written down the most, in my mind that's how it should be spelt Grin

My DH is Kieren, though one of the first things I ever said to him was 'You spell your name wrong' Grin

Mind you, if I had a second son - we would probably go for Rhys and that's the original Welsh spelling, so it might be nice to go for Ciaran
